Tile On Stainless Steel Hot Tub
I thought I have seen everything!!
Local Hotel has a 3 1/2 year old hot tub that is fabricated from stainless steel - and then has mosaic tile - on some of it. The floor, seat, step, and a row around the top are tiled, the rest is stainless steel. The hot tub is an octaganal shape - about 7' The pool company that installed it has been back numerous times to replace tiles and grout that keep popping off. They have used sanded white grout - sometimes with widths of 1/2" - a lot of it is missing From the tiles that were off, it looks like they used thinset - other than one spot which looks like mastic ![]() My only thought on how to rectify this problem is such: Remove all tile Grind s.s. surface to scarcify Use Laticrete latapoxy 300 adhesive Use Laticrete latapoxy 2000 grout I don't want to touch this unless I can "feel good" about it working! Any comments or ideas would be appreciated Thanks Mike Jarvis |

Re: Tile On Stainless Steel Hot Tub
Yeah, they do list some steel as suitable to lay tile on when using the epoxy. But you might want to check closely. I can't imagine they want you laying on some stainless "skin". I guess that is what the tech support is for.

Re: Tile On Stainless Steel Hot Tub
I don't think you'd be able to do it without using epoxy....maybe Bud or Bill will be along shortly.

Re: Tile On Stainless Steel Hot Tub
The more I think about it, they probably allow you to lay on steel treads, but this isn't some "skin", it's cold rolled steel. So this will let you do staircases.

Re: Tile On Stainless Steel Hot Tub
A quick update
The laticrete rep agreed with the epoxy adhesive and epoxy grout (and also that spectralock would work just as well). He did mention deflection, which I am going to have to look at a little closer. Going back on Tuesday as we have this new "Family Day" holiday on Monday. Going to kick back and try to beat my kids on the Wii!!
