Most of the time these "how much to" posts don't turn out well.
Seeing as we've already had one magic moron here tonight, I'll try to help some before the flames begin.
Pricing is really up to you to decide. No one knows your overhead. What are you worth? Only you (or your customers) can really decide. I asked a question here almost 2 years ago about pricing based on experience and the overwhelming reply was it didn't matter. You obviously need to know what you're doing, and assuming you do, only you know what you need to make to pay the bills and stay in business.
While this doesn't help your immediate situation, some advice I got a few years ago seems to hold up well, no matter what the economy is like:
when you start contracting 50%-75% of your quotes, you're not charging enough.
As for tile, I think everyone has their own formula. I don't have specific amounts. To me, each jobs is unique. However, to me, $600 for that many rooms seems low. Each room has it's own challenges. If this is a remodel, bathrooms have toilets. Door jambs need to be cut. Baseboard and/or shoe molding. Carpet transitions...etc. I not only consider how many sq ft need to be laid but how many cuts will need to be made too.
Time going from your saw to the upstairs can be very consuming.

Right. If you have to supply underlayment, that figure will be too low.
Good luck

Am I reading you correctly, that all backers and prep will be done?
The electrician might be making the final connection, but who is installing the cabling? What brand of under tile heating are you using?
And yes, if he's telling you he'll take care of you with more work if you just take care of him... That's a huge red flag.
As Angus said, your figures sound very very low.

Your rates for floor work are a lot lower than mine....I won't even get into vertical pricing. SF pricing on tile work in an occupied residential situation is a quick way to make chump change, my friend. Leave the sf pricing for commercial and new construction work, where a lot of the variables have either been taken away, or are uch more controllable and therefore easier to account for. I have had 3x5 showers take a week to complete. That's only 125sf of tile tops....$4.25/ft doesn't even cover the first day of labor, much less materials and overhead.

Wow, the magician must have taken some wind out of some sails!!
I price tile by how long I estimate it is going to take, plus materialsm, etc. Inlcuded is running around time to pick stuff up, go to the dump, etc. The rate you charge....well, that's a hard one to nail down!!
Oh, and unless a customer asks, I don't usually tell them how much an hour I am charging, it is so much for the job, period.

When they tell you that they will have more work for you, turn it around, tell them "thats great I offer a discount for repeat customers."

You're not very creative in making a user id, huh?
make sure you have no liability for the electric tape getting screwed up (since you're not installing the ply or 1/4" backer). Don't forget to take into account all the time you'll be cutting tiles.
I did a small bathroom for a friend from church and sold the tilework as a straight bond but offered to lay it diagonal for free because it would look much better-boy there were a lot of cuts, but I knew that going in and it made a big difference being laid diagonal.

I'm in Minnesota and those prices are way low for around here. As a GC they are lower than what the sub is charging, so your pricing is lower than an uninsured sub. I guess the customer will like that.

I'm not going to comment much on this, only to say that when you asked "if you should charge more for vertical surfaces". It was obvious that you do not have enough experience to do the work. Plus do you know how to build a shower correctly?
One more thing. The shower that requires 12 ft. on the floor, is worth from $1,800-2,200 labor. It can vary a bit depending on method of installation.

The more work later may just be chasing him in court for your dough.

I was figuring 4.25 a sf + extra time to apply self leveling in the two rooms + my materials.
Total sf is about 564.
|
So 4.25x564 sq ft is 2397 plus self level and 600 for materials so $3000.
Then in your last post you say bid came in at 12K. That's a big change in price.
