Mudset Marble Professional Needs Work

My Name is Brett, I am VP of Superior Marble and Tile INC., I recently(right before the big housing drop) attempted to expand business, and became very over extended. I have had some difficulty starting up in the Sarasota area, I would very much appreciate some advice if anyone is in the area and/or some work. Thank you for your time.

It's not mudset, and it's not even custom work. But if you don't mind traveling, there's a company out of Coral Springs called Total Flooring that goes all over doing malls and commercial work. You might give them a call. THey're ALWAYS looking for good talent.

it'll get the bills paid.

With his attitude it's no wonder his business is failing in one of the hottest longest running tile markets in the history of the tile world.

If a guy can't find tile work in Florida he is either a very poor operator or a very white american.

Construction is in the crapper everywhere nright now. Doesn't change the fact that Florida is a HUGE HUGE MARKET for ceramic and stone tile and even when economies droop they droop on a percentage basis. Everything is relative.

Re: Mudset Marble Professional Needs Work

Florida construction is normally great yes, but right now it has taken one of the rost hits as far as new home building in the country. Well actually the entire housing market in Florida has just fallen off of the charts. No new building, no remodling, not even any commercial work. The only reason I still have ANY work is because i got a very large job for the owner of PODS(25,00sq.ft), but soon that will be done, and I have been trying to line future jobs up for 2 months. Being new in this area does not help me, but even the Port Orange area my first area(east coast) has nothing going on. Maybe it is time to get out of Florida for awhile and head back to Mass.

Maybe it's time to develop a better marketing plan.

Florida might have a lot of tile work, but it also has as I understand it a reputation for very low tile setter rates too. Everybody and their brother was setting tile down there for $2 a square foot before they went in the crapper. How much now? A buck?

Re: Mudset Marble Professional Needs Work

You are correct in saying that the average price was very low here in Florida, there are a few of us that take pride in our work, we banded together and made our own price list. For me my pricing has not really a set rate because all of our jobs are totally different, and custom, but on an average for say 18x18 just regular straight foward tile installation on the floor I'm around $8/ft. For a mud set marble installation I'm getting from $18-$20/ft. Now if there are unique layouts, or inserts, inlays, slab corrections(to a certain extent) then the price may go up or down.

$18-$20/ft. for mud work in Florida???.....wonder why you don't have any work. those rates aren't even realistic down here.

there are guys in Orlando & Tampa doing it for $5 to $6

*it's time for all the transplants down here to move back home.

Bob ? sure it wasn't ...Bobagenush ?
