ALL out and start from the new sub-floor.

Re: Matching Elevation
what does tile coming out only where visible mean? the cabinet is staying inplace ? how big of an area? a few tile and i would just fill that space with sandmix and tile (skip the marine plywood). but if you don't want to skimp, a tearout would be a better job AND make you some extra.

Re: Matching Elevation
water damage to the subfloor beneath toilet area. small bathroom, most of the floor is covered by a large vanity on top of original tile floor. plan is to remove floor where visible make proper repairs to subfloor & framing and install new tile in this area. i think i,ll build up the joist height to make it come out right

"Build up the joist height"?
Sounds like its time for a couple shots of Jack Daniels before you start that job.

Re: Matching Elevation
Is this still "CONTRACTOR TALK"?
Doesn't sound like seasoned contractors to me! Sounds like the blind leading the blind. That's the kind of posts you would expect from a television program DIY forum.

Re: Matching Elevation
Just demoed a bathroom today where they had tile then 1/2 inch plywood over cardboard then oak hardwood then subfloor, love the layer of cardboard fist time I have seen that H.O. wanted to leave plywood till I showed him the cardboard.

Re: Matching Elevation
If you read the question and propossed remidy, you'll see the person doing this work has not done this before, or has limited knowledge and has already come up with a plan. Seasoned, I think not.
I try to ask questions in hopes of receiving qualified knowledge of contractors who have done the work before. If you've worked around contractors for any length of time, then you may have heard this type of "joking" talk before. |
