Latex Modified Thinsets
I am in the process of remodeling a bathroom. The new tub is recessed and enclosed by 3 walls. I have put Durock (please not flames from the DensShield fans) up 5 feet and 32 inches wide on the back and front walls.
I am about to do my first ceramic tile job. However the sheer number of latex (polymer) modified thinsets is somewhat confusing. I will be using standard ceramic tile. I would like to use a good quality thinsets that does not set up real fast. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are premixed thinsets not recommended for walls? Durock makes a thinset that is not for sale in Maryland as of yet. Thank you, Robert |

Re: Latex Modified Thinsets
I wouldn't use premixed thinset...ever.
But they sell it to someone, just not the Pro's. |

Re: Latex Modified Thinsets
Did you install a vapor barrier behind the durock, are these shower walls?
NEVER use pre-mixed thinset for anything, just Mastic in dry areas with 8" or smaller tile and never with stone, that aside, get a bag of Versabond from HD, easy to work with and modified, get white for light colored grout and grey for dark. |

Bada-boom-bada-bing...
![]() http://www.custombuildingproducts.co...er=arc&lang=en We use this for just about 99.9% of every tile we lay. 3x the cost of the cheaper stuff, but I sleep well at night. But now, I'm also interested in Tecs new 3N1 do it all thinset I have been seeing in the trade mags for the last few months. http://www.tecspecialty.com/product_...asp?prodId=108 |

Re: Latex Modified Thinsets
Versabond, FlexBond, and MasterBlend are all good products from Custom.
SingleFlex is good thin-set that doesn't set real fast. It cures over 12 hours. I haven't seen HD or Lowes sell this. Try a tile store. SpeedSet is strong thin-set but dries quick. And sets after 4 hours.
