Which grout?

Will sanded grout affect the shine of a highly glazed ceramic floor tile? The grout width is 1/4" so I would prefer sanded grout.

Do you mean will it scratch it? At 1/4 inch you have no choice that I know of other than a sanded grout.

I do believe you could scratch a cheap glazed ceramic tile with sanded grout, however I don't think it is an inevitable outcome of using sanded grout. I've installed black glazed ceramic and used sanded grout, black would show the worst I would think and I don't recall any problems with it.

I agree with Mike, you basically have no choice but to use sanded grout, unsanded will shrink and crack. I have never had a problem with any grout scratching glazed tile, you shouldn't either as long as you don't 'grind' it in. Floor tile is a lot harder than wall tile and is made to take the abuse (unless it is really cheap).

If your really concerned, take a piece of left over tile and mix up a little grout and see what happens.

Try to use an "icing" bag. Like they use decorating cakes. I know they sell them for grout usage. Be a lil neater than just smearing everywhere.

A typical tile cannot be scratched by typical grout. The use of a grout bag doesn't change anything.

I did the job today with sanded grout and it turned out fine
I used a bag once on a marble backsplash and it was a PITA so that wasn't an option today. Thanks for the replies guys.

Glad to hear it!

I use grout bags occasionally, especially with slate backsplashes. Sometimes more of a PITA than anything else, but it looks great when your done.
