Doorless Entry In 32"x60" Shower...asking For Problems?

been asking around. hoped you fellas would give an honest opinion. some have shown pics saying yes water will splash out but they just use a mat at the entrance...then hang it up to dry after the shower.

another bath remodel friend is saying "dude you are asking for problems"

whacha guys think...?

Where is the shower head compared to the entry?

I have done a few doorless showers - the smallest being about 74"x44"

I think it would be a little hard to contain the water. Is is possible that you could recess the shower base and actually start the slope outside of the 32" space? I would also maybe suggest making sure the wall tile on the entry side extends 12-18" past the 32" mark.

Good Luck!

PS - having an overhead rainshower shower head will probably help to contain the water

You're asking for a lot of water out on the floor. As long as you build the floor to deal with the water and the customer is okay with a soaking wet matt that will never be dry or mopping up a ton of water with their towels after every shower, then you're good to go.

for real man thats what im trying to tell her. she is showing me pics of small showers with a doorless setup..and on another forum a very respected guy sent me a pic of a 32x60 he did and says it doesnt get that wet.

was thinking a rain shower head too....hey i just had an idea....what if you use a rain shower style head but put it toward the center of shower and shoot the water back at the wall opposite the entry? really stupid or maybe something to think about?

I don't see anything wrong with a doorless shower as long as you're not setting yourself up to have a pool outside of your shower :P

We're doing a handicapped shower right now and it's a doorless shower sloped up into the shower (1/12 I think), and a floor drain in the room outside the shower. Don't think I'd want a floor drain in my home though, but this is for a fitness club and the mechanical eng. required it.

Better yet, put the shower head coming out of the ceiling and right in one of the corners. That would help a lot, wouldn't be really a useable shower, but it would eliminate alot of the water problems on the floor.

Water on the floor is no problem so long as it travels to a drain. You can put a shower head on the edge of a 12'x12' bathroom and slope the whole floor towards the center for all I care.

Put some grab bars on the walls so that gal can bend over.
