Backsplash Backboard
Tiling a kitchen backsplash between countertop and cabinets
wall is painted can I install tile over the painted walls? or do I need to cut out that drywall and screw bare backerboard into studs then apply tile |

general practice is to glue backsplashes over existing sheetrock using mastic

Yes, you can tile over painted walls, but if a gloss finish, I would rough sand it first, Mastic is fine as long as the tile is under 8" square and aren't stone.
