With Hydroban forming a waterproof membrane under the thinset, how do you avoid the thinset showing darkening patches when the moisture gets behind the grout and into the thinset behind the glass tile?
Beats me.

Guess that could happen no matter what's behind it eh.

Whose glass tile is it? Completely clear I take it?

I can't say I've ever done anything in a shower that was completely clear... and after this post I can see the potential problems.

I'd say the only guarantee would be epoxy grout--and even then I probably wouldn't risk it. Any chance they'd re-select?

I don't think epoxy grout would save you.

It's a no-no by almost all glass tile manufacturers. (warranty gone)

It's a steam shower so it's vapor not just surface moisture.

Re: Anybody Put Glass Tile In A Steam Shower?

I'd call first but perhaps consider urethane grout. Here are some advantages:
• Chemical, Stain and Mildew Resistant
• Pre-mixed, single-part product provides:
- Absolute consistency every time
- No field mixing mistakes
• Pigment-free formulation provides:
- Absolute color uniformity every time
- No batch control problems
- No fading, streaking or shading
• Provides fast and easy clean-up when compared to epoxy and cement grouts
• Excess product can be saved and used later (unless curing additive used)
• UV stable, non yellowing
• Semi flexible, low shrinkage and high crack resistant
• Self sealing
• Non-sag formulation for vertical surfaces
• No allergic reaction like epoxy grout
• One-way breathable grout can be used in areas exposed to hydrostatic pressures
• Ceramic, Porcelain, Glass tile and stone applications
• Indoor and Outdoor
• High moisture areas, swimming pool environments
• Commercial or residential
• Horizontal or vertical surfaces including floors, walls and countertops
• New grouting or renovation regrouting
• Wet or dry area applications

With specifically StarQuartz, they are about to release a formula that doesn't need an additive to speed the curing process (as currently does) and a line of grout specifically made for use with glass. I have a sample of the glass grout I am using over iridescent (clear) glass next week. Of course, I'm just doing a backsplash in a powder room so no moisture/vapor issues there.
