Advise Sought ???
Did a small 20 sq. foot entance area to a basement this afternoon with tile on thinset mortar. over concrete....
PROBLEM ?? had a storm blow thru area and got alot of rain...outside drain clogged up and a small amount of water came thru under the door and covered maybe half the tile....I soaked it up with towels and paper towels in between the spaced tile.....WILL this be OK or will it need to be removed and reinstalled... |

Re: Advise Sought ???
How long after the tile was set did the storm blow through? If it was more than a couple of hours, I'd let it be. If you DO let it be, though, you might want to go over the joints with a wet vac before you go to grout it, just to make sure you got all the water out.

Re: Advise Sought ???
Tile was set for a couple hours at most....
power went out is why I did not vacuum .... told home owner if/when power came back on to vacuum and or put a fan on area....I was thinkin to let is set an extra day to dry out before grouting... |

Re: Advise Sought ???
That's a tough one. I guess it would depend on how well you bedded the tile in the thinset, so as to keep the water from getting all the way under the tile. If you just laid them into the thinset, and didn't actually work them down to make sure you had a good bond, I think I might not take the chance and pop it all and redo it. If you took the time to wiggle them back and forth to make sure you had a good bond, I would doubt much water got under the tiles, and then I'd chance it and leave them.

Re: Advise Sought ???
If modified thinset was used, about an hour or so after spreading the thinset it takes on a plasticity that would in most cases repel the water rather wick it in my thinking. I doubt there was any harm done at all.
