Why were my posts deleted?

Yesterday I went on this AOLP forum for the first time and posted two messages.

The first was a simple hello to the AOLP members expressing my enthusiasm about joining, my praise for the new leadership of the AOLP and a statement of committment for my company to help further the goals of the AOLP.

That message was deleted.

The second message was an invitation for members to comment on our new website and its many resources.

That message was deleted.

My first question: Who deleted these messages?

My second question: Why?

What is AOLP?

No matter what forum, your message my have looked like it was just advetrising, which no one wants cluttering up the forum.

Any user of the a forum can make a comment/report or alert a moderator to possible advertising or offensive uses. After that, it is usually up to the moderator to decide. The moderators usually can see through the violations quite easily, since they see so many complaints. Praising and a refernce to web site for opinions are two classic tip-offs on new members.

On all postings there is usally an icon on the bottom of the post for reporting the post.

Either that, or they forums are set up to be moderated. Once the admin reads the post and decides it is ok, then he will add it to the forums.

Very powerful people, get new locks on your doors at home.

The power to delete posts is like having a shiny gun, no sense in having it if you're not going to use it, even if only for practice.

Okay I was just joking around, where you advertising something? Or are you a homeowner and not a contractor? Those seem to be the to most common reason for deleted or locked posts, in that order.

Second post and you're hyping your own website? And it's many resources? Sounds like you're selling something to me.

Take a few moments and read through this, it's the site's Terms of Service regarding advertising. That may answer your "Why?"

Steve, your posts were deleted because they were advertising on the open/public Contractortalk.com website. You are now set up on the private AOLP forum and can make your posts there.

For everyone else, the AOLP is the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals. You can visit us at www.aolponline.org to learn more about our organization.

Thanx for the information. It cleared the picture.

When I was in high school, there was a catholic girls high school that officially was known as OLP (Our Lady of Peace). They were the "hot ones" supposedly at that time (50 years ago), but nobody could prove it.

My thoughts exactly.

Kind of like going into McDonald's and asking them why Burger King wouldn't refund your money

We host a private forum for the AOLP. So... it's apart of ContractorTalk.com but hidden unless your an AOLP member.

We are just trying to help support associations when they need help.

Apology

Dirt Diggler... I did not think my comment was un-family oriented. Dick was holding a big fish in his avatar. I was impressed. I apologize if you didnt realize this... I should have been more specific. However your screen name gives me a bit of an uneasy feeling... I feel like this whole thread should be deleted!! Happy Digging Dirt Diggler.
