Question Spider Splice

How many of you use the Spider Splice? Do you like this way of splicing? Why or why not.

I use the spider splice or hub or junction along with the "T", loop, and lollipop. They all have their place where they are best suited.

O.K. ......, I obviously need to do alittle more research because you lost me right after spider splice. So there are various splicing techniques depending on the situation. Can you recommend any good books on design?

Wiring methods vary greatly... Here we have comparatively huge lots, anywhere from 2 to 12+ acres. As such Hub methods don't really work for us. They are more suited to traditional urban and suburban lots.

Here at INTEGRA we budget 75m of 12/2 for every 4 fixtures installed.... last time I checked I was the largest purchaser of 12/2 landscape lighting cable in the area.

Have a great day.

My largest residential project to date is 15 acres, 17 transformers and over 300 fixtures.

My largest project to date is a private golf club (Oviinbyrd) where I installed 26 transformers and 386 fixtures... The main power feed down the 1.2km long driveway had to be 600V! It was quite the undertaking.

Needless to say, we didnt use HUBs to wire anything.

Have a great day.

We have used the spider splices. I still do on rare occasion when the looks of it will matter. We often find the spider splice to be too small and its such a hassel to bury a pile of wire under it. We have switched to small irrigation valve boxes. Not only are these a third the price but you can also mount them flush with grade and mulch right over em. This also allows you to put plenty of slack coiled up neatly in the box for future service.

Dont confuse the spider splice with a hub method. The spider splice is the actual PVC tube and bronze cap sold by CAST.

We have also used the T and chain and lollipop when conditions dictate altho we do preffer our good ol hubs.

Southern lites....Where are you located at ?
