"Professional" Lighting Splices
This is a job I will be making repairs on next week. I was already out last week to repair some of these splices. All of the splices are this way. I used my wire locater to find the wire runs and dug where I thought the splits would be. And below is what I found. Nice, huh!
I made my customers aware of this. They are going to try and get the "Professionals" to come back out to fix this, but I don't see that happening. They spent a lot of money on this and new landscaping. They didn't use me because the landscaper said, they did lighting too. I'll take this mess all day. As I see it, I don't have competition if this is what I am against.

Re: "Professional" Lighting Splices
I know what you mean, I have one around here where they stripped out about an inch of jacket and wrapped the fixture wire around it and taped it up. This is for the entry to a VERY high end developement. It's going to take about 6k to fix it!!

Re: "Professional" Lighting Splices
add that 6k to what they paid the other guy and tell me they couldnt of hired you for close to that in the first place
Here its common to find mainlines knotted then wirenutted with pierce points at the fixtures. Kichler should eliminate the pierce points from the boxes all together but then I guess I would be digging up electrical tape like this I think im the only one who still solders just about every connection. Im starting a stock pile of copper crimp rings but do on occasion use them when it is limited accsess for my soldering kit. |

Re: "Professional" Lighting Splices
Yeah Billy, I could have done a great project out there for around 15k and it would not be having all of these issues now.

Re: "Professional" Lighting Splices
Damn!!! Thats about as cob as you get! I had a manager of a developement calling me every couple months for about 2 years to come and repair the splices at the bottom of every lamp post. The fella that installed them used aluminum lugs and just wrapped them with tape. When dug up they were badly corroded and usually the wires were broken off the lug. I told the manager after i found the problem that every light was probably like this but he insisted i only repair them when they were a problem instead all at once. His tight wallet was probably the cause of cobbed wiring but he paid dearly when i had to repair them in the winter with frost on the ground.
