Fixtures???????

Hey guys I am new to this forum and really like what I have seen so far. I have been in the landscape business since I graduated college in 2001 and have worked for all of the big guys. Now I have started my own business and am a certifiable member of the small independent guys. It feels great too.

I was wondering what fixtures most of you guys use. I was searching on the internet and there are hundreds of suppliers. I have recently bought from my local irrigation supplier (FX Lummuniare) but they are a little more expensive than I would like, but they are local. Anyway if anybody has advice on suppliers please let me know.

There are literally dozens of excellent manufacturers out there, and many more very poor ones.

Align your self with a very good quality outdoor lighting distributor and they can help lead the way.

Nightscaping, Vista, Unique, Hunza, Vison3, Coppermoon, Hadco, Kichler, the list goes on and on.

I am in your area and I would suggest going to Longhorn irrigation supply in Round Rock. They carry Kichler, Vista and Cast lighting.

I would recommend kichler. I used kichler exclusively when i first started. The quality is great for the price. Dont use the quic disc though. The quic disk is useless.

+1 on Kichler. Great value for the price and a great bunch of people too. If you want to go up market some try BK and Kim. I know they are pricey but the are well respected in the landscape architecture arena and last for ever.
Ace connectors last for ever too. Quick connectors are not just quick to install; they're quick to fail too.

Don't be afaraid to mix fixtures from different manufacturers. They don't all have to be the same. The best up light (BK) is the best up light even if it's from a different manufacturer than the best flood light (Kim). IMHO of course.

I'm not so sure local suppliers are necessarily the best way to go either. Handy if you need something now but inneficient IMHO. I have ran my business for over ten years having stuff shipped in from the most reliable and competitvley priced distributer I could find. The could be 5 or 500 miles away but it only takes the same time to write and email a PO and two days later it shows up on the door step. Picking stuff up locally is so time consuming.

Hey Paul

You are my neighbor... im in ann arbor. who do you purchase your products from? I do agree as well with wasting time at local distributors. It alway seems like an hour at least to go in order stuff from the local guy. When purchasing from a far shipping can add up as well though especially on transformers and wire. I am building my business into a distributorship as well as full service lighting. If you need any kichler transformers I can give you a hell of a deal and can deliver them to Birmingham or ship anywhere. Along with lv wire. I thought you might want to know this because getting the heavy stuff shipped from out of state can add up. Let me know if you need anything at all. Its always good to have people to consult in michigan.

I also use a a lot of hadco. They have a sweet mr16 well light and some cool dock/beacon lights.

From kichler the bbr brass fixtures are great. 15384bbr & 15381bbr.

Regards
John Paul

Ironwood, I am a national low voltage lighting distributor out of MN. I carry 30 manufacturers. My single largest line is Kichler, they are a great value, and always coming out with new products...they are AOLP members by the way. I have several favorite fixtures but not all from the same manufacturer, that is why I carry so many lines. Each application situation and environment requires that fixtures be considered carefully. I have many years of field experience with these manufacturers and can give you insight into paint quality, fit/finish, etc. Choose your suppliers wisely, do they just fill orders or do they help you to select the best fixture and lamp (very important) for the application? There are many places that will get you what you order but very few that will spend time insuring that you get what you need.

Best,
