Connectors
What type of connector and why?
I have read about the Buchanan and Ace connectors and like what I am seeing.
What about the disc style connectors or any other point type connectors?
Does the disc type provide enough protection?
By the way HAPPY EASTER everyone

I have yet to see an insulation piercing connector that will not fail in time.

That's my preference. Matter of fact, I normally make my own.

I use the buchanan crimp almost exclusively and seal it in a DBR. I have used the Kichler Quick Disc in the past and still do sometimes in above ground locations.

I would not use the quick discs in your area at all.

The Major phone companies (48/96v) use Silicone loaded connectors in Sewer run communication lines.
That would be my choice.

I don't think those are rated for the amperages that this lighting can pull.

Just squirt a wire nut full of silicone. Never had one fail yet. For the bigger stuff, like #6's and #4's, I split bolt it and put in one of the ScotchCast epoxy baggies.

As someone who does a lot of service work I feel I have seen almost every possible method of connecting LV lighting cables and the only one I use below grade is ACE connectors. Quick connectors are quick to install and quick to fail. Silicon filled wire nuts are mechanically weak and pull out if the wire is pulled on anywhere in the run. Other methods are just too slow, too exspensive or too dodgy for me.

I would modify that to say "improperly installed wire nuts are...."
I know I could tow a truck with a properly installed wire nut on two sufficiently strong pieces of wire.

Sure, but I have never seen one here. Then again, I guess I would only get to see the improperly installed ones.
