AOLP Welcome
Whenever I ask someone if they are going to join the Association of Outdoor Lighting Professionals I get the question, what do I get? Well, besides all of the camaraderie of some of the best landscape lighting professionals in the business. An annual conference where education is top notch. Discounts with some great distributors and a certification in low voltage lighting which can land a project that others won't qualify for. Now there is a welcome package that makes membership a no-brainer!! When you pay your new membership (or renew) you will receive a welcome package that will include your certificate of membership, your AOLP logo, your standards of installation and coupons, discounts and rebates from manufactures and distributor members. These incentives will exceed the cost of membership!! This means that by joining the AOLP, the person will actually MAKE MONEY!! Do you know any association where you can actually get so much value?
Take a look at what the AOLP can do for you and your landscape lighting business at www.aolponline.org .

Hi Paul,
I've meen lurking around off and on for a few months. Michele's e-mail notified me that some sort of relationship now exists between AOLP and Contractor Talk. I hope this gets off the ground for us.

Logging on the AOLP "private" forum
Hi all members of AOLP,
I wrote Michele yesterday and she replied to tell me to contact Nathan, the administrator of this site, to let him know that I am a member. My name here is different from the AOLP site and the site will not automatically recognize me.
When I tried to register as an AOLP member yesterday, I was told that a member already uses my e-mail address. Makes sense.
I sent Nathan a note and told him what is going on. I hope to hear something soon.
Tom

Hello Mike, it's great to see you aboard. Tom, I see that you got taken care of as well. I think that the new AOLP forum is going to be a great tool for our membership.

I'm slowly adding you guys to the private AOLP forum as you join. If for some reason you haven't been added yet please post in this thread and I'll get you added.

Hello Guys...
I sent in my AOLP membership application a week or so ago. I had a nice long chat with Michelle yesterday on the phone.
Looking forward to participating here.
Just to clarify, is this the "official" forum site for the AOLP?
Thanks.

James, this is not the private AOLP forum. Once you are a registered member of the AOLP (I'll call Michele today) you can send an email to the host of this site letting him know that you are an AOLP member. He will verify through Michele or myself and then, the next time you log in, you will see a section on the home page for AOLP members only. You can't even see it unless you are a member.

Any advice on passing the low voltage tech exam?
I am interested in taking the low voltage lighting exam in January. I have three years field experience and have not signed up to receive the study manual. I just joined the AOLP and think it is wonderful to have coheshion and standards in the industry.
Are the proctor stations difficult to pass? What study preparation do you think is necessary to get a solid handle on this? I am having difficulty with the timing of taking the exam versus studying for the exam... Any insight would be appreciated.

I have replied to your email but let me say this in the public. I would say that if you are VERY good at studying and can absorb the study guide easily (I'm not good at this myself) then you might be OK. I would suggest for anyone who wants to take the exam to sign up as soon as the registration allows and get the study guide right away. The exam is based entirely on the guide and therefore it is imperative that you know the guide inside and out. You must score at least an 80% on every section of the exam to pass and if you fail more than 3 sections, you must re-take the entire exam.
This is not an easy test. I failed it the first time and I'm an experienced electrician who thought it would be a breeze. I sure fell flat on my face though.
What ever you decide to do, good luck,

New to Forum
Hello,
I am new to this forum and just wanted to say this is great. I am an electrician that enjoys landscape lighting. I am seriously thinking of specializing in landscape lighting and possibly outdoor sound systems. Thanks for all the good advice guys.
