Trees
Ok here is my situation:
I am going to develop 15 acres for a new home development and I have to take out a line of trees on the west side of the property that I really like. What is the fastest growing tree for my area?

Re: Trees
You might want to look into a tree called the Royal Empress also sometimes called a Royal Paulownia. They can grow 10 feet in their first year and get up to 20 feet within just 3-4 years.

Re: Trees
Cole,
I have NO clue if these things will live in Texas, but we got a Silver Dollar Gum tree 1.75 years ago. At that time it was in either a 3 or 5 gallon pot and fit easily in the junker van we had at the time. The tree is now as tall as a single story and is 3 inches at the base. It is related to the Eucalyptus. http://grounds.ucdavis.edu/Treewalk%.../trees/75.html It gets over 100 here in the summer and on SOME days it can get below freezing in the winter. I think we are in climate zone 8 or 9. ![]()

Re: Trees
Check out these sites:
http://www.arboristsite.com/index.php http://www.arborday.org/ also check to see if your state has a forestry extension service, up here in Vermont the state has its own tree farm that you can buy trees at a real cheap price. I have done it before and got some real nice trees. |

Re: Trees
Empress tree is a great choice...Empress Tree's will settle at a height of 30 to 50 feet and a width of 20 to 30 feet. To reduce the potential height of your tree, trim the top of the tree to slow its growth.
