What do you guys recommend besides grinding it up? Any chemical I can use to break it up first?

Thx

Sure, you can try what my father-in-law tried. He poured pool chlorine on a tree stump, followed by pool acid. It made a huge cloud of hydro-chloric acid that he inhaled and was rushed to the emergency room. The doctor said fortunatly for him he was a smoker. Years of tar and nicotine build up saved his lungs from being scared, now his lungs wher nice and pink. He quit smoking soon after that. And yes, it did kill the tree stump...

I still think he's and idiot.

Call a stump removal company.

There are company's that make all kinds of stuff that take half a year to remove just the stump. Then you have to deal with the roots. Do yourself a favor and hire a pro.

Mine have averaged about $50 if I'm not in a hurry, double that if you are.

Yeah, I got this chemical called....you're not gonna believe this...it's called.... "backhoe", and it works every time!!

Seriously though, we dig 'em out all the time. stump grinding only removes some of the tree stump, backhoe usually gets it all. Never messed with chemicals.

Re: Tree Stumb Removal

I know some people in my area put some coal in the middle, and keep it burning. Takes weeks and weeks to remove a stump by burning coals in the middle, but it does work. I'm sure those people aren't real popular with their neighbors during that process.

chlorine & acid, very foolish & lucky guy.... since he was hospitalized, clearly he did not know what to expect... just dumping anything he could find on the stump..... there was a guy in germany circa mid 40s, who used chlorine & acid to kill 100000s...... father in law is lucky he did not kill anybody.

Re: Tree Stumb Removal

Tree companies around here charge $4 - $8 an inch (tree diameter)to grind them out 6" below grade. Most have a $75 minimum charge to come out.

Childhood Flashback: My grandfather used dynamite - fast, efficient, but hard to get anymore.

If you check out the Rental places for stump grinders, you will quickly see that $75.00 is a bargain.

Re: Tree Stumb Removal

A guy wanted me to grind and haul off the shavings of a Live Oak tree stump, which was 5 1/2 feet in diameter, for $100.00

I shook his hand and wished him a great day.

Oh yeah, the tree was 2 feet above grade and he wanted it 6 inches below.

Re: Tree Stumb Removal

I just had 8 trees removed & the guy ground the stumps for $50 each, no debris removal. Just like anything else, the more you have, the better price someone will give you. I'm surprised the guy wanted to waste his time on only one stump, so $75 was bargain basement pricing. Cleanup is a pain the the @$$ though!
