Tree Root Problem
I have a 20 year old ornamental pear tree that was planted with mostly concrete surrounding it, and 50% of the small area has concrete all the way touching the trunk. The roots under the concrete have raised and cracked the concrete which stopped a large gate from opening fully. I've jackhammered the concrete up and am about ready to pour some more, leaving a 3 foot cirlce of soil around the trunk.
My question is "how much of the root system can I cut without harming the tree?" Any help would be appreciated. steve
