Tennessee Sandstone Pathway Help

Hey guys, I need some help/suggestions. I haven't worked with this stone much. I installed a Tenn. sandstone pathway for a customer last week, excavated, 3" compacted sand, settled stone, randomly spaced approx. 1.5 - 2" (more at irregularities), gaps filled with sand (homeowner did not want this to be permanant and they like the contrast). Everything settled great after several good rains and daily watering by homeowner. Only one complaint, homeowner doesn't like the fact that the sand splashes up on the stones when it rains. I need suggestions/ideas to remedy the problem.

Also, the HO likes the "wet" look of the stone following a rain or watering. What would be the best coating to achieve this.

Thanks much

Re: Tennessee Sandstone Pathway Help

There are products to seal the stones for a wet look, but they will also make the stones slippery when wet. As for the sand splashing up, there are stabilized sand products on the market (search for pavers-sand-stabilizer), although I do not know if they will work as advertised in joints of that width.

What type of sand did you use? The solution may be to go with a larger, sharper sand, maybe even up to a 1/4" sieve mix or crushed granite or limestone.
