Synlawn Fake Lawn

I am looking to install synlawn at my house and looking for any feed back. The web site looks great and the samples are impressive.

Why in the world would you want a synthetic lawn?

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

Reasons:
1. No more mowing.
2. No more watering
3. No more dead spots from dog urine.
4. No more spreading chemicals on my lawn 3 times a year.
The stuff looks real and can stand up to heavy use. I was looking for feedback from installers who have used it.

Plus, I want a nice green lawn on x-mas seeing as how we get less and less snow in New England, if I can't have a white x-mas, I will settle for green.

I did look at the website and there is still turf maintenance. Your right no mowing or fert apps, just other maintenance to be done.. To me it belongs near pools and other play areas not as a residential yard unless you have a really small yard. I love to see them do my land 20 acres of fake turf ... IMO I don't like it.

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

is this the stuff they use around the Wynn in Vegas? It really does look the part.... I dunno if I'd want it in my yard though, I'd sorta feel like Scrooge for some reason...

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

It is the stuff that they use at the Wynn. Aside from the fact that Wynn has a bigger bank account than mine, the cost savings somewhat offset part of the cost. I have a lake front home with a small front yard that I will try in on first then maybe the back yard. I also have a lower back yard that I would love to do with one of their fake putting greens.

As far a maintenance, their top grade stuff does not use infill and drains water. I am not in favor of using a leaf blower. I hear that home depot sells a lawn vacuum? I hope it looks like a mower or my neighbors will think that I have gone batty making my wife mow the yard.

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

So I'm curious... did you go ahead with the project? Or if not, what were your reasons for going against it?

I'm with you on wanting it - fewer insects, have allergies anyways, pets kill the grass... Why NOT?!

Thx!

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

I saw several near here while advertising and working in one neighborhood last week.

One looked nasty, which was under a tree that dropped seeds. Seed drop down within real grass better.

Another lawn, was big and rectangular - it looked "okay".

The color is good.

The best looking one, was smaller fake lawn with rounded countours - not rectangular. And no trees were over it.

I doubt I'd own one, but they are better looking than I expected. At least while they are new.

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

The new synthetic lawn products are outstanding. Benefits far outweigh the pitfalls. I used www paradiselawnsinc .com in San Diego. Their top of the line product was $7.99 installed which included sod removal. It looks far better than any natural lawn I've ever maintained, and the maintenance consists of a 15 minutes every 2-3 weeks with a backpack style blower.

I've eliminated mowing and mower maintenance, weeding, sprinkler breakage cleaning, and tuning, edging and weed whacking. The annoying and smelly can of grass clippings that has to be dragged out to the curb every week, and the lawn looks PERFECT ALL THE TIME. Plus, my water bill has been cut in half and I now have leasure time to spend fine tuning my planters so they look better too. You can't put a dollar value on that.

I see you used that blower to blow the dust off of my 4 year old thread

You could just have a real lawn, hire a lawn guy, and eliminate all that mowing and mower maintenance, etc.

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

When the next home owner comes in I hope he rips it out and deposit it in a eco-friendly landfill. You should also buy solar panels to power the electric broom to sweep it out. Just a suggestion but you line the yard with rubber mulch beds as well to help clean out the landfills.

I've always wanted, and this is not a joke, a lawn made of rocks like a Japanese rock garden. No mowing, beautiful, and maintenance consists of blowing the leaves off once a year and the occasional, peaceful, raking.

Re: Synlawn Fake Lawn

What about maintaining the moisture around your foundation? This may be a bigger issue in Texas than in other parts of the country. As someone who holds a landscape irrigation license (as a hobby) I'm totally against this stuff.... If you want to conserve water check out Xeriscaping. Replacing something that grows naturally with a plastic product just doesn't seem right to me... And I'm still not convinced that there is not a link between plastics and cancer...
