Re: Retaining Wall

Standard block 8" high X 16" long. Keep your grout joints in check and you can hit the OC marks on your tape.

Ya should have tried the DIY forum for this question.

Re: Retaining Wall

Caps = linear feet of wall divided by length of each cap stone (plus a couple for just in case problems)

Wall = length of wall divided by length of each block times (height of wall divided by block height)

If manufacturer wants it toed in (a certain number of courses burried) you'll have to add that as well.

So for instance if you want a 100 foot that is 2 feet high and your blocks are 1 foot long inches long and 6 inches tall youd need 100 blocks per course times 4 courses if it was set directly on the ground.
Plus cap stone.

Read up on the manufacturers sites because anything over a couple feet MAY require engineering or special considerations. ALL require some sort of base be it gravel, cement or other ground prep.

Re: Retaining Wall

Josh,

NasC hit the nail on the head. Which manufacturer are you planning on using for block? Pavestone? Keystone?

What you'll need will depend on which block you're going to use.

Which block you'll use will depend on how tall the wall will be.

Give us some details on what you've got in mind and we can go from there.

I just saw you post, how did you make out. If this a true retaining wall which means it is holding up ground, call a masonry contractor. Last year me and my husband fixed two retaining walls, he is a stone mason and been at it over 38 years and we have a concrete and brick business on the side and I can tell you what we had to charge and the man hours involved to tear down and redo the walls right was the twice the price it would have been to start with. We actually did these two as favors and hopefully will never do another one.
