Re: Removing Dirt

A little math is going to get you close.

The area of a triangle can be found by multiplying the base times the one-half the height.

area = 3.5 feet * (4 feet /2)
area = 7 square feet of area per triangle, and you have 70 linear feet so (7*70) equals 490 square feet or (490/27) = about 18 yards of dirt.

Re: Removing Dirt

I'd figure it this way:

70 feet X 3.5 feet X 4 feet = 980 sf

980 x 3 walls = 2940 sf

2940/27 sf (one cubic yard) = 108 cubic yards without swell

I figure you'll be using geogrid to help retain the walls. Therefore, I
figured you have to do use bench cuts for them.

Peace,

Re: Removing Dirt

I came up with 54 yards total and you came up with 108? Somebody is off.

Getting even more precise don't forget the dirt that will be removed from behind the walls if you install drain tile and gravel also.

Re: Removing Dirt

Mike,

You figured removing a tringle shpae section of soil. I figured on removing
a rectanular section for the geogrid. That's why I'm twice what you are.

Peace,
