Landscape Curb Edging

Hey Landscapers,
Iam currently in the home improvement business and was thinking of incorporating landscaping to my work. I do snowplowing in the winter due to down time. My question is has any one heard of the concrete curb landscape edging? Is there a market for this product in upstate New York.

Also is anyone currently providing this product and service, and is there a market place for it?

Please let me know.

Re: Landscape Curb Edging

There is a big market for it here in Northwest Ohio. Alot of guys offer that and stamped concrete patios or walks. Me being a brick guy obviously i dont like it all that much. My neighbor had Landscape curbing put in around her beds, and it looks like a street in her front yard, I dont know just doesnt seem to look as good as a paver or wall block or even natural stone. But I know we cant compete with it.. concrete is much cheaper then brick or stone that is where the guys make the money, with the customers who want something different but dont want to pay the big bucks. I guess everyone has to make a buck and find their own thing, but its definently not for me.. If you were to offer curbing, I would also offer stamped concrete, that go hand in hand around here for sure.

This sounds interesting. Anyone got a picture link?

Is this like slipformed curbing, or are they precast units?

Big time out here in Colorado too. They use a machine that makes it one continuous turd.

Re: Landscape Curb Edging

I have to say.... it is so ugly though, with all do respect to those who like it. Personally, I don't think that edging is supposed to be visible and the curbing stands out like a sore thumb. Perhaps there are some commercial uses for this stuff, but I have never seen a residential use that I liked. I am not a big fan of bullet edging either and some people insist on that.

Now Stamped driveways patios and walkways are a whole different ballpark, if you can talk the homeowner out of pavers. I have met a few homeowners that just haven't seen good stamped products and insist on pavers.

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Re: Landscape Curb Edging

Never has caught on around here. Been at least 3 people start up and fail for lack of interest. There is currently an ad for a curbing edge business for sale in the local papers so I guess it is now up to 4.

I have to agree with nalandscape. The profile is just too large to fit most residential properties. Commercial apps- maybe.

I do know it is popular in other areas of the country so you may come out all right if customers are use to seeing it around.

Not to be a wet blanket, but I can't stand the stuff.

Granted, it may be a result of "operator error" but everywhere I've seen it down here it's cracked into chunks. Not the week after installation, but it didn't take long. (couple of seasons max)

Several people have tried to get the look "off the ground" so to speak. None have stayed in business.

I've filled many a hole with what I've carted off jobs for people.

.....just my humble opinion....

Springer if you're going to be getting into the Landscape end, please check the rules and regs in your area as to licensing.

Welcome

Re: Landscape Curb Edging

I am just getting into this and came here looking for info. My two cents is that yes there are a lot of start-ups that do bad work with cheap mixes in material and probably bad material to start.
They are now starting to add cabling for strength in the curbing, and if not mixed right it will crumble.
I have seen curbing from a local company here and it has been down 5 years, still looks good.
Another thing...as with all things the most important aspect is marketing and advertising. that's why a lot of people will fail in business, they tend to get lazy in their marketing & advertisement department.
