Grass Seed Spreading And Fertilizing

I was approached the other day about spreading grass seed and fertilizer, with spreader behind tractor, for a company I am already doing work for, but I have no idea what window to charge. I know what the cost of the rye grass seed and fertilizer is, but the profit margin is what is needing to be obtained.

Now, before people start saying "tree-fiddy" I know demographics change profit margins, but here is what the customer came to me with.....

"Can you do the work for less than $2,500 / ACRE ?"

No prep work invloved? Only spreading fert + seed? Hell yeah I'd do it for that, $2500 is dam good money with very little material cost. Not sure if there's time for it to grow in your area though, too late for a good stand growing here.

Do it by the sq. ft. Depends on the prep work. Seeding with prep by me could run .40 cents on up

This is reason pricing threads don't work on the internet!

he's in long island NY. They have to measure grass by the square foot. Thats all there is 1 acre of grass is worth millions. And plenty nuts that can pay it.
Here I would walk an acre for a month planting every seed by hand for 17k and still make 3 times what i make now

Framer beat me to it!

Long Island isn't much different wealthwise from where I'm at and not much chance you'd get a sucker to pay that much. But who knows there's one born every minute they say.
At that price I could lay the best sod you've ever seen.

Re: Grass Seed Spreading And Fertilizing

That is what I thought.
Here in Louisiana rye grass grows pretty well in the winter so I have a good window. I will also be planting an amount of bahia grass in with it.

150# of rye = $65.00 (amount needed per acre)

225# of 13/13/13 fertilizer (amount needed per acre)

After fuel and delivery of equipment I am looking close to $250/acre without labor.

If the customer is already paying $2500/acre, then I will be your undisputed and loyal contractor for $2000/acre. That'll be a savings of $8000.00/day!!
