Deckorators Connectors

I have used the plastic connectors for metal balusters many times and I love them I think they save lots of time. I did try for the first time the ones from Deckorators that are sloped for use on stairs. And I have to say I think they suck bad I spent 2 hours screwing around with them and could not get the rails put together. I finally took them off and drilled them and put both sides together in less time than I spent with the connectors. Has anyone else used the sloped ones before? Was I being stupid? my angle was right in the middle of what they recomend for using them with.
