In the spirit of this forum I do not want to use this issue to showcase our products. That being said... You do have our web address and you can find us by googling
"Painting Contractor Forms"
"Roofing Contractor Forms"
"General Contractor Forms" etc.
We show samples on the website of every form we sell... but, as is the case with unhique, we protect ourselves by not showing the latest law changes on our samples... so if someone copies, they will not be doing themselves much good.

Always remember that you better know why you are putting something in your paperwork not just that it sounds good and others have it. If you do not know the law behind your content and the legal precedent for its interpretation as well as the reason for the content from a business/trade perspective... you will get slaughtered if it ever goes legal and your more informed competition will use it against you... sometimes getting the job you should have gotten!

Here is a pretty good employee hand book. I have highlighted the "name" and some other items you will have to change. The rest of the lingo you will have to decide if you want to keep it, delete some of it, or change it. Good luck. Hope it helps.

Re: Give A Form, Take A Form

I am a local home renovator in Ont Canada. Im looking for some help with estimating.I was looking for a form or basic software that will help with estimating...for example im looking to do a complete basement reno.Aprox 1100 square feet. I have a layout done (on paper) and am looking to get a materials list together to go in the presenation. Is there such a thing as a check list or basic software to help with this? For years now I have been doing this in my head and on paper. The last 2 jobs I have come up short and actually lost money on the materials..guess my ol noodle just isint what it used to be..

You need to add the "fine print" in your quotes to make sure you dont lose money on the bid and also dont lose the customer by pricing yourself out of the competition. During my years of working as a GC, most of the subcontractors who worked for us started off with the lower price but mostly made lots of money in change orders because of how they worded their proposals that excluded so many things they other competitors had for so much less price. At the end of the day, those were the ones getting the job in the begining and finishing it at 100% more than initial price. Afterall its a business.

Hey Actforms,

Thanks for including your link. Do you have forms for Canada? (Specifically Ontario). I'm a new GC and these forms look extremely helpful.

If anyone else knows of a similar resource for Ontario Canada I would appreciate it.

Regards,

Re: Give A Form, Take A Form

I took the 2005calculation.xls file posted by 31b and made it an actual worksheet instead of something you have to do by hand. I am posting it back in hopes that 31b will get it back.
I don't know if 31b originaly had calculations as I have open office and it was an Excel file.

If I made an error in the calculations, please let me know.
I am planning to update it to the 2008NEC ASAP.

* I repaired the file Load Calculations 2005-1FamilyResi.xls, a couple of the calculations wouldn't compute for service sizing

I wish someone would do something similar for structural load calculations for small residential units. Sometimes you have a small job and you want to do the calculations and have a PE review your calcs and approve it for permits. It would be nice to be able to do the leg work in-house.

There are too many variables when doing structural calcs to setup a spreadsheet. If you have a specific type of project I might be able to help you out. Let me know what you are looking for.

Hey there,

Does anyone have a finish schedule that they would like to share?

For instance,

Bathroom

Floor tile, vendor, square ft, grout color,

Vanity

Sink, brand, model

etc.

Re: Give A Form, Take A Form

In the RRP class the record keeping aspects certainly stood out as a "must do" to avoid troubles with later claims, enforcement etc. However all of the forms and checklists seem to be paper based - and poorly designed at that.

I'm looking for fillable forms like some Excel spreadsheets or Word docs that contain the steps/tasks contained in the Renovator Checklist as well as some of the other Post-remodel reporting.

If anyone has taken and of the documentation forms electronic - I'd love it if you could share.

thanks

Steve

Re: Give A Form, Take A Form

I'm trying to track a number of jobs that I and my partner are undertaking and am wondering if anyone has any budget/actual and profitability spreadsheets that they are using to track bidding accuracy and profit across the whole organization. It would resemble a "dashboard" where I could track accuracy by project, salesperson, and view all projects. If such a thing exists that would be great. If not, I'll setout to create one, but if someone already has one that would rock!

Thanks
Joe

Re: Give A Form, Take A Form

Regarding RRP Warning Signs (EPA Lead Regs)

I hate the idea of paying for a warning sign for the RRP regs. I found a website that has a program you can use to make warning/hazard signs. It's free and it's called Safety Sign Builder from a company called St Claire. It's freeware/donateware (no, I have no connection to them)

I can't post a link to the site but Google: "safety sign builder 2.0"

I made 2 signs and saved them as .pdf files.: a "No eating, smoking drinking" sign and a "Warning Lead work area/ no entry sign" I printed them off and put them in a clear page sleeve. Hopefully they will be useful to others or you can make your own versions at the site.

Still looking for RRP reporting forms if you have them...
