Are you an out of state GC needing a FL Lic.?

I am a Florida General Contractor looking for business opportunities with out of state contractors who are looking to do business in Florida. We are also open to possible reciprocal business opportunities for the up coming 2009 hurricane season for GC's in coastal areas.

I am only interested in legitimate qualifying opportunities and will not "rent/lease my license".

We are a by the "book" clean company with a clean license!

Construction Company out of Texas

Hello, I am a partner in a fairly large Construction Company out of Texas. One of our divisions is Hurricane Relief Services. We have worked 3 storms now (Katrina, Rita, & Ike), and are looking to work Florida this year if you guys are hit.

I am of the understanding that you are required to have a state license even to do the Demo aspects of Hurricane cleanup down there, and of course am just licensed in Texas.

Please shoot me an email at excelrenovations@gmail.com if you are still looking.

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you.

By the way, we can have about 10 to 15-5 man crews on the ground and working inside a week if the work is there.

To do any contracting work in Florida you will need a contractors license, unless the Governor signs an executive order again allowing out of state contractors to work in Florida like they did during Katrina.

I understand that, but isn't it like here in Texas where basically a State Licensed contractor subs the work to you? I know during IKE, I subbed my license out to 3 different companies, inspecting there work daily, of course, and made a killing. Basically, I had my work as well as all of theirs, worked out really well for us all. Hell, I am not even working down there now, and we have about 10K a month still coming in.

in Florida, No you cannot sub your license out.

If you aren't working down there now, how are you supervising their work?

In Florida what you are doing would be illegal.

If a Texas company wants to work in Florida, they need a licensed contractor to qualify the company, it is a legal arrangement that has to be done through the DBPR, you can't just loan or rent out a license.

Storm chasers are one reason why Florida steps up its enforcement of unlicensed contracting when there is a storm, after Charlie hit Ft Meyers I went down there to help a friend out, the building department told me to make sure I had a copy of my contractors license with me and my guys at all times, if they showed up on the job and I wasn't there with a copy of my license or the workers didn't have a copy of my license, they would all go to jail.

I understand, and it is a shame that this industry is full of dishonest people, the fact is, there are many of us that look at this not just as an opportunity to make a living, but most importantly to help rebuild lives.

My partner and I rotate on a weekly business inspecting job sites in Houston. We did full back ground, BBB, insurance, etc... checks on anyone we decided to work with.

-they need a licensed contractor to qualify the company

This is basically the same thing as I listed here, or am I missing something?

Anyone who is subcontracting work to other companies is considered acting as a general contractor in Florida. So that person/company MUST be a licensed contractor, even if you aren't directly doing the work. The only exception is if you are the owner of the property and acting as owner/builder.

We had an out-of-state client who does retrofitting of major commercial buildings. They don't do any of the actual work, but sub out plumbing, HVAC, electrical, etc. They were busted and all Florida job sites shut down, putting many people out of work, because they were acting as a GC. They called us to help them get licensed. It was a nightmare to get them back up and running, because now we had a complaint and investigation to deal with.

Get licensed beforehand, then you're ready to get to work when it's there.

Hope this helps!
