Re: Texas Home Builders

Copus... are you a registered home builder in Texas? What are the requirements? Can a builder build there without registering?

Thanks,

Yes if you do work over $20k you have to be registered in the state of Texas.

I know a ton of people that have not registered and get away with it.

Re: Texas Home Builders

Ok... so if someone tells me that they build or do construction (over 20k), then I should be able to find them on the Texas website that I listed before?

Sorry I was slow on this. Yes I am a registered builder. I hope I show up cause the pricks got my money
I think you can still be grandfathered? The requirements at the time I registered was fill out the form.
They are now $300 bi annually. I was pissed of that they could more than double last years rates and called to see if they are going to double the rates next cycle. "We hope not" was the reply.
I vented and told them I was upset to have to pay a fee to legally perform my trade and it seems no one else is bothering. He said they will be coming down on violators and that banks will be requiring certified builders for their projects? Frankly I dont believe it. We shall see I suppose...
Hope that helped? I know I feel better

Re: Texas Home Builders

Hi,this Post Is About "copusbuilders" Comments About License Registering/ In Massachusetts When They Reguired Us To Get Them /we All Thought ? Yea Maybe But They Let U Be Gran -fathered /so It Wasn't So Bad / The Fees Changed And Went Up But The First Liscences Were For Building Up To 30000 Cubic Feet And This Let U Build Most Houses And Small Commercial Structres / As The Law Progressed The Building Inspectors Under The States Urging And Lawyers From The Towns Started Reguiring Liscense Proof / The Reguirements Started To Change And Classes Of Skills Were Added Limiting The Newer Applications To Taking The Tests For The Different Areas / Type Of Work Etc. / As The Stae And Towns Were Pressed By The Lawyers And Law Suits From Shody Work Lawsuits / The Insurance Proofs Were Required And Building Permits In Many Towns Aren't Issued Until The Paper Wprk Is In Place. Also In The Upscale Towns The Computer Industry Has Developed Software For Proof Of Payment Of Taxes Owed By The Homeowners Or Contractor Working On The Jobs Before The Permits Are Issued / So ,it Is Wise To Apply For The Unrestricted Granfather Liscense Asap / As ,i Can Supervise Blasting And Rigging On My Jobs And Have Never Done Either Job.

Re: Texas Home Builders

everything is too complicated these days.If I needed a house built today,a reputation would be more important than a liscence. It seems today that a good reputation is based on who has the best website.I could go on,---I like the old way better.I am going to get my old 32 oz craftsman hammer and go to work.( maybe on this stupid computer)

I can appreciate what you are saying. It bothers me to no end when the gov gets into our lives. Some people seem to like this, but I see it as fat asses feeding off of our money and efforts.

I give them as little as I can and more than I want.
