The Home Improvement Contractors Act [ HICA ] requires that business that perform home improvement work in excess of $500 [
See: 56:8-151 Contracts, certain, required to be in writing; contents.] have a REGISTRATION NUMBER ~ a registration number is NOT a license...a license requires a test and a registration requires only a check for $90 [
Coupon ].
As an EC - acting within the scope of your trade - a HIC reg. # is NOT required....however, if an EC should perform work NOT WITHIN THE SCOPE OF HIS TRADE IN EXCESS OF $500, an HIC reg. # would be required.
[See:
56:8-140 Inapplicability of act.]
