Questions About Florida License Application
Hello,
I just signed up to this forum in hopes that someone can help me with a few questions I have about activating my license. Let me start out with the basics. I live in Florida, I am trying to activate my state license in plumbing. I am 23, and just got done with college (worst thing I ever did), using the money from being a plumber as well as other things. Because of that, I don't have much money or any assets. So I need to know what I need to show on the financial statement. Like I said, I don't have much, so what do I need to come up with so my license gets activated? Would I be able to borrow cash and stick it in my account and then get my bank verification letter? My next question is where can I get the Proof of CILB grade report indicating overall status as “passed” for the test that I took? I went online an verified that I passed the test on the myflorida website, but I was never mailed any official document. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. |

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
You don't need a minimum amount of assets. The company you're qualifying just needs to show a positive net worth. If it has $500 in the bank and no liabilities, then it has a positive net worth. The bank balance is as of a certain date, stated on the verification letter, so, yes, you can deposit money, get the letter and then do what you need to do from there. If you have any criminal background at all, you should put as much as possible in the bank.
Do you have your test scores you received at the exam site? If so, that's all you'll need. They won't mail you anything. You're fine as long as the system shows you've passed all part. Let me know if I can help! Kristie Cook |

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
I just used cash in the bank for all of my licenses. It was the eeasiest way for me. If you can borrow it and put it in your bank account or the business account that you're qualifying dependng on the way you're going then that should suffice.

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
Awesome, Thanks for all the advice. I do have the paper they gave me at the test, so Ill be sending that in. Also, I don't have a criminal background, so as long as i'm not in the red, I'll be ok.
Agent Ezzard: just out of curiosity, around how much did you have in an account when they activated your license? Thanks again for the help |

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
I had $33,147. All you have to do is get a letter from the bank saying *** Construction has this much in the account. Once you have that letter you stick that in with the application and you're good. You don't even have to keep that money in the account and that letter is good for 1 year of the date it was drawn up.

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
Just curious, how does a 23 year-old have enough experience to apply for a state masters license? I am not looking down on you, in fact it's good that you are showing initiative in obtaining your license. I am 42 yrs old and just this week(Feb. 17, 2010) I mailed my application to get my state of Fla. master plumbing license. I should have done this a few years ago when my children were smaller or not yet born.

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
Just because these posts sit around for a while, I wanted to make a few things clear for future readers. First, the bank letter with the balance is only good for 3 months, not 1 year. Second, in Florida, you have to have at least 4 years of experience or a combination of experience and college education. Since he just completed college, he only needs to show 1 year of experience. So, yes, a 23-year-old can get a Florida Certified Plumbing Contractor's license (it's not a master plumber's license).
Best wishes! Kristie |

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
I'm trying to get set up to qualify two companies. The florida electrical contractors licensing board has requested me to appear before them at their next meeting to answer a series of questions about qualifying more than one business. What should i expect, i'm a little nervous, is appearing a normal condition? Help is appreciated

Re: Questions About Florida License Application
Hi, Darrel,
The ECLB requires all applicants qualifying an additional business to appear, so yes, this is very normal. They will question you about both businesses - type of work, geographical area, your involvement, etc. They'll ask why you want to qualify both businesses. Depending on how you answer questions, they may start questioning how you operate the current business to make sure you understand the laws and rules before taking on another entity. I suggest you answer the questions directly and say NO MORE. I've seen people ramble on and dig themselves into holes because they didn't know when to shut up. Not only did they not get approved for qualifying the second business, sometimes they were fined, suspended or even revoked from the first business. Make sure your current business only does the work allowed by the license(s), has all county requirements up-to-date, doesn't have any complaints and basically is operating legitimately. If the second business has been operating for a while, do the same due diligence on it. If you're operating legally, you should have no problems and it'll go quick. Good luck!! Kristie |
