Question Regarding Experience Required For License
Hello,
I have a question pertaining to the general experience required for a contractor's license. I understand that, in the state of California, there is a requirement of 4 years of experience working as a journey man. I also understand that, as per the blueprint for getting the license in the state of CA, there are other options for getting this experience.* I have a bachelor's in real estate with a minor in construction management. As the blueprint states, one can get 3 years worth of experience for a degree in construction management. I have also been a broker for a real estate investment brokerage firm for the past two years. My father has and currently is building (as an "owner builder") several homes, in which I have participated in helping him with all kinds of physical work in (although he is considered to be the sole-builder, we split the profits). He himself has worked for several years at a construction company as an electrician, then became a "handyman" and I have also helped him in various jobs he performed while a handyman. My question is, would I be able to get the required experience with my above listed activites? I know that you can get experience counted toward the requirement for being an owner-builder, but I have not officially been classified as an owner-builder. Would him making a written statement that I helped him build the houses be good enough? I've called the CSLB, but the two contractors I spoke to said they had no idea. I have a pretty extensive knowledge about the building codes and am rather confident that I could pass the exam for general contractor. Thank you for your time, -1andonly *h.t.t.p.:/./w.w.w.cslb.ca..gov/applicants/blueprint.asp - erase the dots to make a valid URL Last edited by 1andonly; 08-26-2006 at 08:23 PM. |

EDIT: PLEASE DELETE THIS DUPLICATE POST. My apologies for making a double post, I am not sure why it did that.
