PA - Unlicensed Ads

I am shocked at 2 things today:

1. how many people blatently run ads online and under licensing they say unlicensed (Craigslist - I don't usually go on there but I am looking for some used stuff)

2. how annoyed I am by that!

Probably I am just a tad b*tchy today BUT....I've been working hard at making sure we are doing everything we are supposed to do under the new laws and some crap *ss sh*thole dudes are just blatently ignoring it all.

Wow - I feel evil!

Now I know why you guys get all pissed. The laws in PA have only been since July 1 this year so this is new to me.

It must be time to go outside and throw sticks for the dog or something.

I feel your pain amelia-

I have been spending tons of time and money changing shirts, signs, trucks, proposals, and contracts to make sure we are in compliance with these new laws, and just TODAY i found out i was outbid by a unlicensed contractor..customer doesnt care cause they were much cheaper and its a small job.. i just told them you get what you pay for...i make sure that when i meet with customers now i point out that we are licensed and that not all contractors are.

The thing is, there are waaaay too many h/o's out there who don't give a crap (and a lot who don't want to pull a permit and have inspections), so don't let it get you down too much, 'cause it's never-ending.

GA just started contractor lic. last July, but it's pretty much the same 'ole same 'ole. Probably will be in 20 years as well. Ya just gotta find the needle in the haystacks who want a legit company.

California has the same issues. If you are pricing small projects you will see this no matter what the rules are. When you get involved in larger projects unlicensed activity pretty much disappears and the field levels out.

Put the Attorney General's office on speed dial and start turning them all in. Not that it'll will hurt them much but may help you to feel better.

This new licensing law won't mean much until they start fining the HOMEOWNERS who continue to use unlicensed contractors. I say if a homeowner hires an unlicensed contractor, they waive all their rights and they get what they get, whether it's a good job or a good screwing.

Eh, I guess I'll have to learn to live with it. It's a new environment now.

HATE unlicensed hacks!
Turn their @ss in!

Or send me their name, and I'll do it.

If we've got to work by these rules, so do the "beer money" guys!

Re: PA - Unlicensed Ads

You will have to turn them in and ride the State, with constant phone calls and letters to make sure they follow through.

There is a practice which every State in America uses when it comes to licensing of any profession......that is self regulation. See, you know more about Electrical then some govt official, so if you are not pushing the govt to go after unlicensed people they won't.

As far as the State going after Homeowner's, you can forget that....never happen, unless they commit some sort of fraud, they will claim ignorance and the State will walk away, and to be fair, most homeowners are ignorant about that sort of thing.....
