New Florida GC
Hey Guys,
Just aced the FL GC test. Man thats a crazy hard and long test. I have some questions for people who have applied for the gc license. I am using a new corproration with an s corp. Do i need to be bonded for the new 500,000 fund? Do i need a business credit report or just personal? I heard they changed the net worth, cannot find it under the 589 rules. Any other info would be great, heard there is a lot of loops you have to jump through.
Thanks

Log on to the Department of business and profesional regulation, you will find everything you need to apply for your license there.
You will need a credit report and I believe asset's (tools, equipment and cash)of at least $20,000.00
Your bank has to prepare a letter stating your balance also.
Plus a minimum 5 years verified experience which can only be done by a person holding a CGC license, ( if you took the CGC and not builder or residential).

Thanks, Was looking for more input than that. Anyone who took that 19 hour test knows this. Do you have which 589 rule talks about the net worth? I just wanna make sure i dont need 20k in business and 20k in personal. I guess i could just move stuff around, but thats not always fun. I was looking for more input from people who applied and went through the proccess. Just insight from any one basically.
Thanks

And anyone that took the test would know to look in the Florida contractors manual chapter 2 to find this information.
What you want is on page #2-120 61g4-15.005.
When you get your application package from dbpr, everything will be explained for you.
I would recommend that you get a professional company to file your application as the verbiage has to be set out in a particular way.See link below.

When you apply for your license I found that the state is very picky about what words you use in your verification of experience. I passed my test in Aug 06.

Congrats cflguy,
I just passed my Building Contractors' exam this past month too. Took my test in Tallahassee - were you there??
I'm curious about the same info, guys and gals. Somewhere on here I read that it is best to use one of those 'expediting' companies, that will help speed up the process. How much $$ are we talking here??
Thanks in advance for any help,

Congratulations CFLguy.
Do yourself a favor and call Professional Licensure Services at 850.514.2194. They cost about $600. It's worth every dime, I promise.
I passed my exam last April and it only took them about 4 weeks to get all of the paperwork completed. They take most of the pain out of the process and tell you specifically what steps you need to take and when you need to take them. Again, it's worth every dime.
Send me an email or PM, I spend a lot of time in Melbourne, maybe we could get together.

Licensing Service Companies and Experience Requirements
I'm taking the Florida GC test in April. I contacted a licensing service and they were $450 to $1093, depending on what you want them to do.
Is this really worth it? I'm having trouble seeing what they actually DO for you. Tell you what paperwork to get in order? The state does that. How much help do they actually give you on the paperwork?
Also on the experience requirements, 61G4-15.001 (2) (a) defines construction experience as: experience in four or more of the following areas - foundation slabs, masonry walls, steel erection, trusses, structural wood framing, column erection, and/or formwork. However, it doesn't state what kind of experience they are looking for in those areas. I worked in engineering over 20 years for the Federal Government perfoming planning, construction cost estimates for all sorts of buildings, etc. Is that considered experience in those area meeting the Florida requirement?
