Need Inside Scoop On Michigan Builders License
I am currently studying for the Michigan Builders Exam. I want to start out doing window and doors, decks and roofing but I want to get the builder's license incase I go into more. Is there anyone that can give advice on studying for the exam. Resources? Any advise is good.

Re: Need Inside Scoop On Michigan Builders License
Nel,
The easiest route is to take the classes that are offered by some independent outfit for about $150.00. They will provide basically a copy of a previous test that you can study and they guarantee you pass or manry is refunded. I have heard that they have changed the test to make this harder but I haven't talked to anybody lately.Aside from that if you are knowledgable about this business you should study up on the laws as it is part of the test also. If you have any further questions just ask. |

I used a study at home course. Advanced tech courses I found them online. They guarantee you will pass also. I think it was $90. I have been involved in one trade or another for 20+ years so the practical was easy but the labor laws and stuff like that I needed to study. If you have some experience and some common knowledge and good math skills you will have no problem.

I took the Builder's prep course at a local college. Four classes over a two week period for four hours per evening. Class was about $200. The study material provided in the class was good, and i also studied some practice questions that a friend of mine had. I went in and smoked that test, no problem !! PM me if you need details.

Re: Need Inside Scoop On Michigan Builders License
I bought a software program from buildersexam.com and I just sent out the $80 fee to register for the exam on last friday. I feel that the program did a great job with helping to prepare me for the test. (I'll soon see just how good.) Another good thing about the software is that it is based on the same software as the test with the same features. I feel confident about the test and plan on taking it this month. Also in Michigan if you have a contract for over 600.00 including materials and labor you need a builders license. Fences, drywall and painting are some of the exceptions to the law. Check the michigan residential builders for more info on that exact law. Currently at work without access.
Good Luck Chris |
