Massachusetts GC

I have a stupid question. When do I need a GC license? Does it depend on the volume of work you do? The price of the work? or what? I have my CSL, and My HIC#. But I'm starting to get into bigger jobs and don't want to get nailed for anything. And if I do need it what's the requirements? I ask because this past winter I hired a guy (lasted a day and a half) who said he was going for his GC license. Figured if he's going for that he must know what he's doing. RIGHT?? NO!! It took him 2 hrs to hang 1 sheet of drywall. Then he didn't even know what a "Rotozip" was. I told him flat out," You are the type of guy that gives the rest of us a bad name."

Re: Massachusetts GC

I have never heard of a GC license in the state of MA, only HIC and CSL. Your CSL lets you build up to 35,000sf.

Re: Massachusetts GC

Hey this guy had me convinced there was a GC license. I told him the same thing you said Doug. I've never heard of a seperate GC license I started thinking maybe the great Duval Patrick had another Brilliant idea. But then again he also had me convinced he knew how to hang sheetrock. Oh well, I hate the thought of a guy like this being out there calling himself a contractor.
