Edit: See below.

I am up in June so should be getting the renewal notice soon. Unless they have eliminated sending renewal notices too.

Aframe- I just took the prep course to get my csl and I am pretty sure the teacher did mention no more renewal forms being sent in the mail. I could be pulling that out of my a$$ though

Re: MA. C.S.L. Continuing Education Requirements.

John I just checked looks like you will have to do something.

I have not gone through it all but July 1 is the magic date for new requirements.

"The Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) is pleased to announced that it has approved continuing education requirements for licensed construction supervisors and is now accepting applications for Course Coordinators and Course approvals. July 1, 2011 is the line of demarcation for licensees to comply with education requirements."

Just like RRP/state take over, less than 6 months to new requirement and just accepting course approvals.

http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=eopsterm...age&csid=Eeops

I am not against an education program but the state really should to do a better job at providing information to those they serve. At least that a change is coming and where to find information on it.

Didbs, My HIC was renewed in Dec and that was still on paper, but i think they required an email address so it's only a mater of time before they don't send email reminders either

Great. Odds are that people are going to forget. In Massachusetts if you loose your license , you have to retake the exam.

You have 2 years to renew it before you have to take the exam.

Does anyone know if there's a list of courses that qualify? It pisses me off how the state handles these things. I was talking with some other contractors who don't visit message boards etc. and they had NO CLUE about any of this. I also know some guy's who didn't know that there's now a 7th and 8th addition to the code book. I think one even said he doesn't even own a copy How hard would it be for the state to send out a post card every 6 months with any updates?

Re: MA. C.S.L. Continuing Education Requirements.

These are the categories that classes need to cover, but you should check with the school/trainer to confirm if their program has been approved by the state.

"Code Review one (1) hour
Workplace Safety one (1) hour
Business Practices / Workers’ Compensation one (1) hour
Energy (except Demolition Specialty License) one (1) hour
Lead Safe Practices (only first renewal cycle) one (1) hour

The remainder credit hours to be completed by
approved electives."

Re: MA. C.S.L. Continuing Education Requirements.

I was reading that this morning (I just got the 8th addition) The hours posted for each subject don't match the total hours required

I googled for information on it and came across some courses being offered One was at a local vocational school, another was one of the RRP schools and there was one offering it as a online course. I wonder if the state will approve the online one? Because it was only $69 and the others were $100 plus gas.

Mine is up for renewal during 4/12. I just don't want any surprises

if you renewed on July 9, 2011, you will need to comply with the continuing education requirements before your renewal on July 9, 2013. We have informative links on our website, and you may e-mail any specific questions you may have.

Can you complete the C.E. requirement through one of the online classes? Or do you have to attend in person?

All classes you take must be pre-approved. You will only need one (1) class credit hour in Workplace Safety.

Re: MA. C.S.L. Continuing Education Requirements.

I took the class already... to get it over with. It was actually not that bad. They put on pretty good course and I actually learned more than a few things.

The guy teaching new his stuff on all the topics... and wasn't talking out of his "&$%#@" if you know what I mean.

CSI Institute or www.CSIinfo.com I think. There in all the major lumber yards in MA

Re: MA. C.S.L. Continuing Education Requirements.

From the state website (http://www.mass.gov/eopss/agencies/d...tinuing.html):

Licensees who renew a license or are issued a first-time license on or after July 1, 2011 shall be expected to fully comply with education requirements following a full two-year cycle or elongated first-time license cycle (a first-time license cycle may extend beyond two years depending on the licensees birth date).

Licensees who renew or are issued a first-time license prior to July 1, 2011 will be on a different schedule. Please see examples below for clarity.
Example No. 1: John Smith renews his license on July 1, 2011. He next renews on July 1, 2013. Is he required to comply with continuing education requirements? Yes, because a full two-years has passed since his last renewal.

Example No. 2: John Smith renews his license on June 30, 2011. He next renews on June 30, 2013. Is he required to comply with continuing education requirements? No, a full two-year cycle has not been completed since the July 1, 2011 implementation date. He then renews on June 30, 2015, is he required to comply with continuing education requirements? Yes.

I was first licensed before July 2011 so I guess I'm okay?

I have to get it done by 2013, so I'm trying to not even think about it for a while. Hard to find the time for stuff like this.
