Illinois Licenseing?

Ive Been Doing Remodeling For 7 Years For Myself.

Fully Insured Wc And All That.

I Was Wondering If Any1 Knows What You Have To Do To Get A General Contractors License If Even Needed.

The Only Thing I Could Find Was For Roofing.

It Has Never Really Come Up Before.

Thanks

Re: Illinois Licenseing?

There is no statewide GC license in Illinois, each town has there own BS licensing, some towns require nothing, some will except a license from a nearby town, and Chicago has it's own system and codes, it's a frickin' mess. The one thing you'll need to do is register with the Secretary of State and possibly with the county or counties you'll be working in.

All you need to do is be insured- IF you have that then your golden. So really in the state of IL that is such BS is anybody with about 1400 dollars worth of insurance a year can call them self's a GC. I have ran into a few of them at home depot when getting stuff for a job here and there. They even put up a fake GC license number it is too funny.

No state license is required to be a General Contractor in Illinois. However, many communities require businesses to be licensed or registered and comply ...

In Illinois, you do need to be licenced to be a roofing contractor and pull permits.

Its about $200-225 to get a roofing license, I think it is good for 3 years, if you need the site I can get you the info but it is on my other computer, let me know.

Re: Illinois Licenseing?

Im confused about the statement from codywheeler. so if i get licenced in Iowa, it's good in Illinois?
From what I understand you dont need a licence in Illinois for replacing pocket windows; or am I completely wrong? Just wondering because I currently install windows with a very small contractor and am looking to branch out on my own.
