Dont take this wrong, but go buy "Starting a business for Dummies" and follow all of the items they tell you.

Get a business license wherever you want to do business.
Get insurance.
If you are going to have employee's, get WC
If you are going to have employee's, get an EIN
Talk to an accountant about the legal structure of your company, possibly incorporate since you are in California
Talk to an attorney about writing your contracts
Install "clauses" to protect your company

Good job passing the tests, now you really have to "pass tests", the only difference is your "grade" will be your income.

What do you plan to do as a Contractor? Where are you located in CA?

Cool Congrats on passing your eaxm!

Hi,
Now that you have passed your exam there are several things to be done prior to the CSLB issuing your license. Checking the CSLB web-site it looks like they are working on final fees/documents received March 25,2009.
If you haven't already applied for your Bond you will need a Contractors License Bond and also either the Workers Comp Exemption Certificate or your Certificate of Insurance showing you have Workers Comp Insurance.
Although the state does not require you to have General Liability Insurance it is something you should consider. It just protects you as the contractor if you should accidently damage a clients property etc. It also shows prospective clients that you are not only licensed but insured as well.
I can help you with any of the above mentioned Bonds and Insurances you need. If you have any questions and I can be of assistance please call me @ 1-866-621-0773.
Again, accept my congratulations on your passing of your license exam.
You will be ready on day one when the economy rebounds.
PS You may need a county or city business license. Talk with an accountant about setting up your books.
I hear that QuickPass has excellent software for small business but I beleive that talking with a professional first would be the way to go.

Now is not a good time to add another contractor to the list. I would get a job with healthcare, foodservice, or haircutting right now.
