Any info on location for g/c tests in chicago?
And if they're even needed?

I checked with the secratary of state to find that only roofing contractors are required to obtain state licenses.

Should I just pop into the city halls of the townships in which I'm performing work to see if they require payments for local business licenses?

Roofing plumbing and electric in the state of IL.

However yes the CITY of chicago and various other suburbs do require licensing. I do not know if testing is involved with the city licenses, but they are with the state licenses.

Remember the old saying "phone first"? Keep in mind that though the city doesn't require many permits, for the permits they do require it's a major major Bi+ch!

I have a list of the various suburbs around chicago and the bldg dept address + phone. I can email it to you.
