Experience History For Gc License
Hello,
Anyone recently get their florida gc license? I am working on the application and I know the wording on the experience history needs to be exactly what the approval board is looking for. I am looking for a specific example of how the experience was written out from someone who has recently had theirs approved. Thanks a bunch |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
Read the attached PDF file. It should help you with what is needed on the application for the General Contractor's license.

Re: Experience History For Gc License
Hello,
I am in a similar situation. I passed the exam sections and am working on the application to complete my submission. I am stuck on the Experience History section. Does anyone know if it needs to be written in a certain format or verbiage? Is there a sample for this section that I can use to fill in my experience ? I'm submitting the Initial Issuance of Licensure for CERTIFIED Contractors. Everything is complete, I just need to compile my experience and don't want to mess it up... Thank you in advance! |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
The experience is traditionally the trickiest part of the Florida application. There are certain items that need to be included--and of course those items vary based on the type of license you're trying to get. But that's not the only tricky part. You'll need specific project information, and your verifier will need to back you up on what you put on your experience. The state does not provide any sort of template or sample document to assist with this, because although there are some parts that are important for all applications, these pages really must vary on a person-by-person basis.
I'm sorry to be so vague, but because each person's background is unique, there's no good one-size-fits-all response that I can provide to you. I'd be happy to discuss your individual situation directly if you'd like. |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
Overload it with your work history... I gave them 3 pages of specific projects, builders, and addresses of every type of job I ran, all with phone numbers, dates and contact info. Don't hurt to list trade affiliations also, shows you take interest in your trade.
Better to give them too much info than not enough... mine went threw first time |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
Thank you, I am working on it now... Some of the projects I handled were government related so I cannot include too many details (I'm not supposed to.) What do you I should do in this case?

Re: Experience History For Gc License
List the builder you were under at the time;
Your salary or pay rate, position, date you started with them and date you left and reason why, and that you worked on govt jobs and can't give to many detail but list what you can... |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
The CILB and DBPR continuously update the way that they like to see the experience written. I've been assisting with application preparation for six years and have seen the review process change considerably over that time. I caution you about providing an overabundance of information, as the DBPR reviewer is not looking for the quantity of paperwork but more for the specific information that they need to meet statute minimums. If they have too much information to weed through, it may just delay their ability to find the specific information that they need to get you pushed through the system. Your past salary information, etc., is of no relevance to them. The dates of employment are, however, very important. Also, different reviewers analyze information differently. Just be sure to meet the 4 year requirement. You don't get 'extra credit' for having over 4 years when being processed by the DBPR. The only time that extra years of experience may come into play is if there is something detrimental in your background that could cause your application to have to be reviewed by the CILB. In those circumstances, we recommend that the experience is much more enhanced.
As I said, each person is unique, so it's hard to provide a single answer for all circumstances. Hope this helps... |

Re: Experience History For Gc License
Doing this exact thing now too.
Any specific items or key points that are important to include? I've been in either architecture or construction or a combination of both for the last 11 years here in Florida, and have seen projects thru from initial design sketches until final C/O. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |
