Cslb Processig Time...

Hello everybody, how long is the whole process to get a C-xx license over here in CA? From the time of turning in the application to getting the license?

thanks,
J

I just cleared the BG check...and its been almost a year. Passed my exams in sept...from what I understand, the background part takes the longest. So get that taken care of ASAP. Good Luck

to get the BG check done as soon as you recieve it. And to make sure all your paperwork is in order.

Re: Cslb Processig Time...

I just recieved my license after waiting 4-months.
I passed my test first time did all my paperwork finger printing you name it i was on top of it.

I called right when i passed to get my bonding and pay the issue fee
and the lady told me mine was still in the back ground check procces!

I had asumed since I was able to take the test. I had already passed all that background crap but nope!

it has to get cleared from F.B.I, then D.O.J if you have anything on your record it well be delayed for sure cause they have to get all the court records and go over it all. then it goes to cslb and then you have to wait in line to have your app even looked at. and if they have issuse with your past they well request to see any paper work you have to show you have completed the courts request!

and if you failed to mention the fact that you have ever been arested in the past hell even the juvi **** they can deni your app!
so be very honest about any covictions. and expect to wait about 1-year!!! ive talked to alot of guys who it has taken about that much time...

Dont be afriad to call the d.o.j and keep up on your background time.
then keep up with cslb criminal background unit.
then the license modification unit.
even if its been 20 years and you had a petty bar fight!
it well show up on there records!

Did you still have to pay for bonding and then sit for four months?

Re: Cslb Processig Time...

Actully I was very lucky I had found a lady over there that was really cool she helped me out and passed all my paper work through for me!
or I would still be waiting for my license.

but to answer you question bro yes when you pass your test they give you a piece of paper that tells you that you have 90 days to pay your 150.00 fee, get bonded, turn in your workers comp exception, plus your asbestos test! so if you were to wait till you actully cleared from all the red tape crap you would have gone past the 90 days!

I know from the guys ive talked to plan on it taking a good while
they are still on apps from november out here in sacramento!
so once you pass send in all your crap so that way they cant say its your fault for holding back your license.

I dont know if its required but its a good idea to get it knocked out when they ask for it. Better to have everything there and to be waiting on them as opposed to having to wait for them to process what they need to send to you to ask.

btw...got my License today finally! B-895680. 13 months.

Congrats Trident.

The CSLB really is all over the board on this. I got my license in 2000 an it took less than 3 months. A good friend of mine just got his in January and it took him about 4 months start to finish. Than I hear stories like yours 13 months WTF!!. Why cant they be consistant.

Re: Cslb Processig Time...

I got a C-8 License originally in 2004, took 6 weeks from application submittal to writing the test, I then applied to go to a B license in February and was fingerprinted mid March, wrote the test April 10 and was issued an upgraded license on the spot (It was available on the web site two days later). I am told because I already have a license the process was faster for me, my record is clean with the FBI and DOJ, so that was quick. I have heard 12 months for new applicants though.

But I didnt send in the fingerprinting info until i was confirmed for my test. I think thats what really boned me because it was what took the majority of the time. Heh, oh well. Im in now. BUT for fracks sake send in the BG check 1st.

Why did I wait? Because I previously had a TS clearance in the NAVY and foolishly thought that would speed it up, not hold it up.

Trident,
Congrats on the license. can you recommend a contractor school in the LA area? The schools I've talked to so far are online, but located in OC (too far for me).
