Ah I see... the old sequential numbers code... so very difficult to break

I'm sure you're right about the rescheduling fee, but maybe I'll contact the board in case something changed. With my luck it was just changed in order to generate revenue for the state but they haven't updated their forms yet.

Many thanks, License Guru.

Yep, any way they can generate revenue. Even taking 15% of my pay! Might even be 20% by the end of the week! Oh the joys of being a state employee.

Sub License

Hello Again!!

So we have established that I am not going to be able to get a license on my own for awhile because of a misdemeanor that has me on probation. I have recently started working for a decking contractor that said something about me getting some sort of license under him or his Co. An MRE license or something he wasn't sure but said he was going to look into it.
Does this ring any bells for you??
He is also going to start another Co. and his current license is held through his first Co. Can both Co. work off of one license??

As always THANKS in advance for your time and patience!!!
Have A great weekend!!!

Hey bbwolf5,

Yes, an RME. Responsible Managing Employee. You could qualify a different classification on his license as an employee. But the probation factor will most likely still be an issue.

Can both companys work off the same license? No. Each company will have its own license number.

Thanks for the questions.

Need help getting a C-6 license

Hello License Guru

I've been a lurker for awhile.. I'm finally ready to establish my own company and move on with my life..e
I've been doing cabinetry work for about 4 years and I've been working at a GC company for last 2 years as a project manager. Reading your previous response I ran into the quote below...

"First, when you incorporate (btw.. NO LLC's for contractors in CA. I recommend an S-Corp. It's a "pass-through". If I have enough posts I'll add a link to a corporate attorney I've worked with before who deals with contractors in So. Cal who can help you get set up) the license holds the classification, you are the qualifier."

My main goal was to establish a LLC then move on with the leasing and contractor license.. can you please explain why LLC is bad for contractors? are you refering to B contractors or all other contractors?

Also, I couldn't find your website where I can buy the study guide + application review... Please link me

Also, is it better to get the contractor license under my name or the company LLC name???

Any other help will be appreicated and THANK YOU!!

Hello d4vid,

CA state law does not allow any contractor to hold an LLC license.

Now that corporate taxes are on the rise I'm not sure if even the S corp is the way to go. Corp taxes for an S were $800 a year. Who knows what they will be in the near future. A CPA could help with that.

If you apply for a license under a corp, the corp will hold the license. You will be the qualifier. You can leave the corp but the number will always stay with it.

With 4 years of cabinetry experience you will qualify for the C-6 license.

Here is a link to my site. http://www.contractorlicenseservice.com

Thank you.

I see that a lot of companies are actually an LLC company, how is this possible?? What if I can't afford to form a Corp? Whats the best thing I can do with my business partner? Thank you so much for the quick response!!

If you see a construction company with an LLC, that LLC wasn't issued a license number by the CSLB.

I would suggest against a partnership license. If there is ever a falling out and one partner leaves the license, the license is automatically cancelled. Corporate license is the best way for you to go.

Never a bother

Sole owner is always an option. What about the partner?

Yes, you can use your home address and can change it at any time.

You should probably talk to a business attorney. I think if you have a sole owner license and then create an LLC, then have some sort of agreement drawn up between the LLC an the license(you) that you may find that you haven't decreased your liability. Any action taken would be against the license(you).

I guess I was misinformed but just to make sure the test center is not going to provide a book?

Thank you

No, you can not take anything into the testing center. And the CSLB does not provide study materials. That's what I'm here for.

Yes, sir! Also, how can I save the application so I can send to you for your review? It won't let me save as pdf form.

I guess it depends on the adobe acrobat reader you have. I guess you could print it and fax it to me? Email would be better, but fax works too.
