Re: California Licensing

The cslb will tell you it's lengthy in the hopes of persuading you not to appeal. They don't want to spend the money.

Re: California Licensing

I use UPS as my address for my business. I list my box number as a suite(UPS employee advised). On my application where it requires a business street address will I get away with using this address or is it advisable to use my home address? Which is an apartment complex...

It does specifically say no PMB's so I'm leaning towards my home address but I do wonder if they even check addresses...

Re: California Licensing

The cslb has previously disregarded the 90 day law, so don't be surprised if 90 days goes by and nothing happens.

The won't check. But if it looks like a PMB... they might ask you to change it (but I doubt it). Your call.

Re: California Licensing

Hi License guru, I have just recently passed both the trade and law exam, and I saw that in the post you talked about a secondary review for payroll/documentation of your work experience. My question for you is, when do they ask for these payroll verification? is it before your examination or after you have passed both of the test? I have just spent in my contractor's bond, exempt from worker's comp, asbestos quiz, and my initial licensing fee. Can they still ask me for payroll verification? or am i in the clear? Thank you for your time!

Re: California Licensing

Hi diypaul and welcome to CT.

Generally speaking, it happens after the test date has been assigned and the test date itself.

Re: California Licensing

Hello matheu,

Welcome to CT!

To qualify for the B you would need to show experience in Framing and at least two unrelated trades. O/B experience can be submitted but the cslb will go thru that experience with a fine tooth comb. You'll have to complete the o/b experience forms and show that you did most if not all the work. They will determine how long each project would take a licensed contractor to perform the work in deciding how much time to give you for that o/b experience.

Re: California Licensing

I did it myself but going forward I'll use a licensing service. They usually know the rules and how to make an app. go through clean and quickly. I used suretyone.com for my bonds in CA, UT, NV and AZ. They were quick and prices was right.

Re: California Licensing

Hello Mr Guru,
I am in the process of applying for the C-10 license and I am currently at the stage of waiting for my Live Scan results to come back. I was given an ATI number but when I call the DOJ, it says that there's no record of this number. I submitted my fingerprints last Thursday and it currently is Wednesday, is it too soon to be checking on the status, or should I call the office that took my fingerprints to see if everything was transmitted properly?
The reason why I am so eager to check my status is that while I don't have a misdemeanor/felony, or any arrest of the sort, my driver's license was suspended about 15 years ago due to a failure to appear for driving with expired registration (young and stupid). I then got caught driving with that suspended license (young and stupid and needing to drive to a girl's house). I didn't disclose that because I had completely forgotten about it until after I had my application posted. Would this be something that can hold up getting my C-10 license?

Thanks in advance

Re: California Licensing

Did you plead guilty or entered a nolo contendere plea to the infraction? Was it a misdemeanor?

Cslb app says:
"Has anyone listed on this application EVER been convicted of or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to ANY misdemeanor or felony in the United States or a foreign country?"

You could send the tech an amended Section 5 page to cover yourself.

Re: California Licensing

Thanks for your prompt response.

I don't know/remember to what I plead. I just paid the fines and didn't appear before the judge. Is there somewhere I can check to see if I have a misdemeanor in my report?

Re: California Licensing

You'd have to get another livescan done and have the report sent to you. But that wouldn't get to you before the cslb received their report.

Do you have a copy of the Section 5 page you submitted? You could change the No to Yes, fill out the attached form, and send it to the cslb.

Re: California Licensing

I want to fill out page 5 but I don't have any of the information requested, so I called CSLB to see what I can do.
I spoke to a technician who after I explained the situation said I should be good to go but he referred me to the criminal unit just to be preemptive.
After I explained the situation to a lady there, she said that I should wait to see what the results are from the DOJ. However, if there are any issues then my application would be void because I lied in my original application. That I couldn't submit and amendment because it was already posted, and that even if I could, my application would be voided if there was any variance from my disclosure to the DOJ report.
In short, she said that my only two choices are either withdraw and resubmit my whole application, or to wait and see if the DOJ clears me or not.
I guess I am left with no choice but to take my chances and if the application gets voided, resubmit based on the information from the background report.

Re: California Licensing

There you go... wait and see what comes back.

But let me ask you.... were you ever booked and fingerprinted for that issue? Or ever?

Re: California Licensing

I have never been booked or fingerprinted. Only time I have ever stepped foot inside a police station was for a food drive.

Re: California Licensing

Then you should have no worries. If your prints aren't in any system, then your report will come back clean.
