Bond requirement for contractors license in CA

Can anyone give me a quick rundown of how a bond is filed with the licensing board? As I understand it my state asks for at least $2500 in working capitol as well as a $10,00 bond to be filed with Registrar. At risk of sounding like an idiot, who is the registrar and is the Bond neccesary? I am working on my app. for a painting contractors license and the license form itself does not refer to any bond requirement.

Read thru the "blueprint for becoming a licesed contrtactor" at the CSLB website. It answers alot of little questions about things.
Yes a bond is required, but it doesn't need to be filed until the board tells you to.
The registrar is just someone at the license board.

Good luck!!

The bond is now $ 12,500.00, they are pretty cheap, once you file you application your mailbox will overflow with companies wanting YOU to take their course to help you pass, YOU will also be inundated with bond offers, first time/first year runs around $ 100.00, I just renewed for three years @ $ 259.00.

Update...

Bonds now run about $180 for newly licensed contractors. If you'd like to avoid the junk mail, I can help with the bond. Click on my name below for more info.

The $12,500 bond is necessary to get your license. It will not be issued until prove you have your bond and send it to the CSLB. After you pass your tests, you will pay for a bond(around $100) and send the CSLB a copy. Once you send in your application to the state you will be getting a bunch of offers for a bond in the mail. Just fill one out, enclose a check, and mail it in(after you pass the law and trade exams).

As for the $2500 in capital, they never verified that I had it.
