Would This Help?

Well, first of all, hello to everyone here at contractor talk. To start off, I'm 18 years old and im in that phase where I don't know what to do with my life. I had gotten a job a few months ago with a company that does concrete work (footings, grading, rebar, and slabs). And one day I was given the opportunity to operate the skid steer to move dirt and dump it, boy did I learn quick. Then, came the mini excavator...still need more practice. But unfortunately, I was one of the people that suffered the lay-offs and whatnot. So, I had been plannin on going to college for accounting, but I love doing construction work at the same time. So, my question is, would an accounting degree help me if I would in the future consider starting a small Excavating/Grading/Land clearing company? If I do decide to start it in the near future, I would do footings and grading mostly. I know this would require a lot of patience and planning. And I was hoping I would be able to take care of the financial side of the company but hire someone to do the actual work. Hope I made sense too...

You made lots of sense and it sounds like you have your head on your shoulders, so go get education while you young, you will have plenty of time to hassle... get your CPA, then you can start hassling and you will have a few options, and if you find out along the line that contracting business is not for you, you have something to fall back on and make a good living.
So don't blow it.

Good luck to you
