The machine is heavily modified. Where the bucket is normally mounted, there is a plate it slides into the tower, and has two locking pins that lock into another portion of the tower. The counterweight of the machine has been removed. Pretty heavily engineered, common for a German manufactured product. Looks like a fun ride though.

Look at the top and in front of the track, on the machine, on the structure. It is wedged in like a climbing deer stand would as you climb (if you're a deer hunter).

That's exactly it. That machine was purpose built, all it is good for is what you see it doing. Good marketing gimmick I guess, but useless in the real world.

Of course it is remote controlled, so if you did put a bucket on it then you could truly sit on your couch and still work at the same time ..........look in the cab..........do you see an operator or an empty seat?? That to me is the coolest part.

Geez, I bet that guy could pick up a dime between two nickels without disturbing the nickels using that machine. I saw a video once where a guy used a machine like that to undress a woman on stage. Wish I still had it. Super amazing!
Found it. Here is the link.

that undressing video was totally bogus....watch it close, they had that machine tweeked down to nothing pressure/flow rate wise....and if you'll notice, EVERY piece of clothing he picked off her, was "tufted" several inches away from any skin. i'm not denying the guy was good....he just wasn't THAT good

Tower Climbing
As far as climbing in and out of a deep hole with an excavator, been there done that. How much faith does one have to have in the engineers that designed that tower. If you watch the video, the tower is anchored by several different Liebher tractors holding down the guy lines. After 30 years in the dirt business and having seen what so called engineers try to get away with (not all of course), the design and construction of the tower to hold the weight regardless of machine modifications would scare the you know what out of me.
