Where You Stand
I guess it matters where you stand to look at it but have you ever given thought to the fact that everything starts with your work and no piece of construction can be PERFECT without you doing great work.
People applaud the Mason, Trim Carpenter, Painter, Tile Guy but the building isn't Perfect unless you excel. Maybe nobody cares? Nobody can see it anyway! Nick |

Re: Where You Stand
Nick,
I don't know if I agree with you on this one. Surrounding neighbors are always applauding us when we're finishing a job. Now are you saying that they're not appreciative of how we left their neighborhood looking or they're just glad to finally get us the heck out of there? Seriously though you're right, (again .

Re: Where You Stand
You are so right on that one. If it's not level to start with the error tends to multiply the further along in the project. I'm a tile and stone guy and I see the errors every day. I'm in a new house that in a 12' span the room is out of level by 1" The builder just wants us to slap it up and get er done. I watch the excavators on many a job site and think...they have the best job. They are the first in, money isnt a big problem at the start of the project, and you get paid. As someone on the finish end, the budget is usually blown, numerous cost overruns, and we are the ones who get beat up. I have installed 99 cent tile in a million dollar home. I wont even dicuss the illegal alien problem. If I had to do it over again, I would be an excavator and concrete guy. And lets face it, you guys and girls get to run some of the most awesome equipment.

Re: Where You Stand
I'm lucky enough to break it up dcl. I get to pretty much do it all and love it. Your right about one thing, the end holds the squeeze.
Oh yea, also, where I stand is just left of the beer tap. Bob

Re: Where You Stand
i've found that people will go the "cheap" on site prep/utility bids, to save a few extra bucks for landscaping, fancy drapes, carpet, jacuzzi tub, whatever. they like putting their money in things they can see. i firmly believe our trade is where you want the best possible contractor you can afford. everything hinges on how well of a job we do. sewer not put in properly, drainfield, etc.? guess what, all that fancy landscaping trees, etc. are coming out to do it right. site not prepped, compacted properly? that pretty colored, stamped concrete driveway is going to settle and crack.
