What A Mess

http://www.camrose.com/engineer/cons.../rosebud_4.jpg

was doing search on net for some stuff, came across this image. why in the world didn't that contractor spend $100 for some 1" rock, over dig the thing about a foot, dump the rock in, set a pump in the corner in the rock, and give his poor employees a dry, clean surface to work on? were i inspecting this job, i'd have problems accepting what i see.

It's a lot easier and a lot fast and a better job when your not wallowing in the mud.

So why not do it?

I'm with you. In fact, most specs require excavations free of water before "work" gets done; meaning the water gets controlled/removed before all else. A smart inspector will throw that in your face in a heart beat.
