What A Great Employer!

Got a call last week....Kile our shop boss wanted me to bring the Company truck in for a once over. So I bring it in the next day, he hands me the keys to another company truck for me to take in the mean time. A day and a half later, I go to pick my truck up...It's brand new again!!! Not that it was old, (an 08' F-250 SD) but wow!! New brakes, new tranny fluid, diff fluid, oil, washed, waxed, floorboard washed out.......It's good to know who your employer will be when you retire!!! I'm employed by a great bunch of people I tell ya....

Re: What A Great Employer!

Alot of boss's will appreciate the same in return from the employee. I buddy of mine drives a boom truck for a local lumber yard and is anal about keeping his truck clean. It was to the point that he talked the owner into designating a truck to each driver since there were so many arguments of who was maintaining the trucks and who wasnt. Anyway the trucks are replaced every 4-5 years and my buddy was the last one to have his replaced. He was the only driver who was allowed to spec out whatever truck he wanted and for any options. The other drivers got new Internationals with basic options like A/C, radio and cruise. These guys have never even washed the trucks and have to be told when to change the oil and grease them. My buddy ordered a Kenworth loaded to the gilles, A/C, cruise, full power, leather, cd player with changer, alloy wheels, etc. and keeps it spotless, he has a schedule that he follows for the maintenance too. The owner had no problems buying the truck because he knows it is taken care of, he will get a better trade down the road and it makes his business look good having at least one nice truck.

I think the 08 Super Duty's were available as early as September last year, maybe earlier.

Maybe he's trying to give you a hint. Something along the lines of "keep it this way".

Re: What A Great Employer!

Must be something about boomtruck drivers, at are local lumber yard there are about 5 trucks and everyone is assigned to one. The guy driving the boom truck is the only one who cares for his truck and keeps it in top condition and the boss actually relies on him to spec and purchase all the trucks. He only gets aluminum wheels on his boomtruck for example cause no one else will take care of them. The trucks are kept about 5 years and because of this guy the boomtruck usually always looks and is in mint condition when it goes back.

Yep....He does that with the equipment as well. Say for instance a dozer, will come into the shop. He'll clean everything up, hydraulic fluid etc, with a solvent, then wash it, clean the undercarriage completely....and if there is a lot of paint missing, he'll pull out the CAT yellow and spray it up to look new! On top of changing the oil, hydro fluid..etc.. He is the "Most up" on maintainance out of any shop foreman I've ever known. Takes care of things big time! If a hose breaks out in the field on a piece of equipment, he'll even use solvent out there to clean the area up after he's fixed the hose. We have F series 950 loaders that look pretty damn new, and run the same way.

Well, we are the same way, we wipe our machines down with mineral spirits and if I get a couple scratches, I'll scuff it up and paint it. As far as tranny fluid and changing the gear oil in the differentials of a pick-up, they are good for about 100,000 miles. I just think that it is a wasted expense.
